AC adaptor - how ro replace

We have a rather nice pair of fibre optic illuminated trees and the AC adaptor on one of them has failed. It resembles any number of old Christmas light adaptors we have around the place so I'm wondering if one of them might be a suitable replacement.

The plug states:

Primary 230/240v
Secondary 6v 500ma

There's also a diagram which shows that the metal plug end has a -ve outer and +ve inner.

- -----------(o---------- +

Does that make sense?

Is finding a suitable replacement as simple as finding one with roughly the same numbers and plug end size/polarity? Presumably it's important not to use an adaptor with higher than 6v output.

You'll want a DC adaptor with very roughly the same current rating (as they're not usually regulated) and the same voltage.

Argos do some universal types with a switch that sets the output voltage and a range of connectors to suit. I have one where the output connectors can be reversed to get the required polarity.

Something like that aught to do the job. Just make sure you get the polarity right.

Re: AC adaptor - how ro replace

Matching all the other figures is important, but get the same or higher amperage (500mA).
