Bye Bye Lotus 1-2-3.
One of the first major spreadsheets, and arguably the first major "killer application" for the PC, Lotus 1-2-3 has finally been killed off by IBM after 30 years.
I'll be honest, I'm a little sad as I learned spreadsheet use by fighting withusing Lotus 1-2-3, but I am not entirely surpised. Lotus was pretty much finished when IBM bought it in the 1990s, and Mitch Kapoor (the creator of 123, Firefox and the EFF) did well to sell it when he did. I am suprised IBM carried it on for as long as they did.

My first spread sheet was Supercalc on the Commodore 64, I then bought a PC and that was when I first used Lotus 123 for DOS, I now use Excel.

Re: Bye Bye Lotus 1-2-3.
I paid £10 for my version of Lotus 123, might see if I still have it.

Re: Bye Bye Lotus 1-2-3.
It was industry standard in the day.
I remember a HR friend of mine relating the story of a colleague who laughed at a C.V. that included a reference to experience in Lotus 123. He was ridiculing the C.V. because he thought 123 was a PC racing game.
It made me be careful about my CV for a few years after.... experience in business software packages; Lotus 123 spreadsheet, Candy Crush database, Super Mario Word processing....
