Re: Need Help
You have to add the acciunt aand settings for the email to the new PC.
It doesn't just 'work' magically.

Re: Need Help
If you can't get it then Microsoft will have replaced it with something new.

Re: Need Help
Microsoft stopped supporting "Outlook Express" as well as Windows Mail a few years ago. The only supported client afaik atm is Windows Live Mail which should be installed by default in Windows 8. You'll find it on the home screen (or whatever it is called) or you can search for it easily enough. Once you are in the prog, if it is the first time you are launching it, it will start a wizard guiding you through setting up an email account. You can type in your email address, the server settings (pop3.virginmedia.com and smtp.virginmedia.com) and your account password and it will set everything else up for you. If the wizard doesn't launch. you can click on "accounts" and "email" and it will guide you through the process of adding an email account.
Edit: you also want to tick the boxes for something like "this connection requires secure authentication" and set the ports to 995 for pop3 and 25 for smtp. Once you have got all that in place you can save and close any open windows, click on the send/receive mail button and it will either work or it won't. If it doesn't work an error window will pop up and tell you if it was a problem with the server settings (indicated by the fact that it will tell you it cant find the server) or if it is password related by way of the password box popping up and asking you to re-enter the password. If you watch the status bar bottom right and see it flick through authorising, checking mail, no new messages, then everything has worked ok and you don't have any new emails.

Re: Need Help
Indeed, Gen is correct. Outlook Express ceased to exist in Windows years ago. It's been a decade since any version of Windows came with Outlook Express

Re: Need Help
Outlook Expressed ceased to exist after Windows XP SP3.
Arthur the only option is either Windows Live Mail or if you have a full version of Office to use outlook on that.

As others have stated, Outlook Express has been discontinued for several years now. The replacement is the "Mail" app in Windows 8 but be aware that this looks very different to how outlook express looked. You will also need to set up your account manually, however if you phone into Virgin, one of the agents will help you do this (or remote in and do it for you).
I have found the following instructions if you want to do it manually but I don't use windows 8 myself so I cannot confirm:
Quote:
Go to live mail in your windows 8 or 8.1
it will have popup to say add account (if first time use)
if it dont pull out the right slide bar and click setting then account then add an account then click other account
it will then ask u to pick (ESA) or IMAP click IMAP
it will then ask you to login dont rush it click show more details
in there put in the following:
Incoming server = imap.virginmedia.com
Incoming port number = 993
SSL = yes
Outgoing server = smtp.virginmedia.com
Outgoing port number = 465
SSL = yes
Outgoing server requires authentication = yes
Where you are prompted to enter your email address, please enter your full email address:
Username leave blank
Password is the password you use for virginmedia mail
Once filled in click connect

Another alternative - and my preferred option - is to use webmail. This is simply a way to access your emails through your browser by going to http://email.virginmedia.com
All you need to do is type in your email address and password, then log in. You'll find that webmail is actually pretty good, better than outlook express at least and as a bonus, you can access it from anywhere.
If you don't know your password, you will have to phone them up to get it reset.

Re: Need Help
There are several other alternative email clients ... Mozilla Thunderbird (it doesn't have to partner with Firefox) - extensions available to change look, add features etc.
