New packages- whats the real difference?

Couple of questions for you all i can't get my head around. Have the M, M+, L, XL, VIP packages now been abolished with those awfully named packages?? other than the name is everything else the same??

I've just called up VM as my internet speed is still down due to high utilization. The package comes to about £99.00 before phone bills. I've now called up about the broadband speeds and they've bumped me up to 150MB broadband speed for 2 quid less! extraordinary. Have they just done that as my mum has complained about our speed or because of a new package??

I have XL Tv, XL phone, 150MB broadband with sky sports...am i basically now the VIP package bar the movies?! for £99?? Is that right?? these new packages and my half arsed thrown together package has baffled me.

So are the new packages allowing this sort of cobbled together packages? Should i call up for the movies as i'm now basically VIP? How am i saving money on even quicker broadband?!

haha its fun times

aye i think youre right mate ive tried that generator myself. seems to be coming together. we have two extra boxes so it kind of adds up now. i thought we'd be able to get the movie channels then for the same price but it is starting to add up!

definitely worth people calling up though to make sure their package matches up. my broadband speed is maxed out now with it!

Yes, will be calling for a relative soon their loyalty discount ends on July 11. Do they still do it, or will I need to drop some stuff in her package?

i just called up today about the internet speed issue and they randomly said they'd increase me to 150MB and knock 2 quid off! very random so havent a clue about loyalty packages but i'd call up at the moment as it seems everything is up in the air!

Re: New packages- whats the real difference?

i've given up our 2nd box (a v+ that hasnt been used for 6 months) and gone from 50mb to 152mb and our package has gone down by 8 quid a month

also gone for an 8 quid a month sim from them as my phone contract is ending so saving another 20 quid a month there

all good stuff

Re: New packages- whats the real difference?

I got a very nice letter from VM telling me i would be better off on one of the new bundles. I am currently paying £52 a month and when i looked at the reccomended new bundle it was the same as i have at the moment with added evening calls (which i don't need as i have unlimited mobile minutes) would in fact be almost £20 a month more. That also made no mention of the extra V+HD box i have so that may have even been more.

Think VM would have been better off if i had taken this new deal but i certainly would not have been

Re: New packages- whats the real difference?

Yesterday I participated in an extremely lengthy survey by "nunwood" on behalf of Virgin Media. It seemed mainly concerned about bundles and I had to let them know how I found the pricing for different combinations.

Interesting bits were bundles with 200 mb, 300 mb or 400 mb (unlimited & capped) broadband and ones containing Netflix. They also asked would I be prepared to pay extra and what I thought as reasonable, expensive but bearable, or just too expensive for Sky Atlantic! (Suggests to me that Virgin are considering the channel but it's not going to be free).

I recently signed up for an extra year, taking the daftly named Big Kahuna Sports Bundle because it would bump up my broadband speed from 60 - 152 mb, give me Sky Sports half price for 3 months and all for less than what I was already paying (bit of a no-brainer).

Yet many of the bundles on the survey were much the same as the bundle I'm on but much more than I pay, I could hardly tick the interested box.

The bottom line seems to be, it's not the bundle but the CS or retentions rep that you speak to that determines what you pay because I pay less now than I did 3 years ago but get a lot more.

Today for me the Big Kahuna Sports Bundle 1TB TiVo with Promotional offers makes my package total £54.37 (excluding telephone line rental) happy days.

So you are paying £70 for

TV XL
Sky Sports
152MBit Broadband
Line Rental?

Great deal must be about £20 off

We got a letter to say we'd be better off on the Big Kahuna 48, I've called twice and it's £12 a month more expensive as they can't transfer our loyalty discount (no expiry date). Just fired off an email to customer services for clarification.

Re: New packages- whats the real difference?

Try retentions, called yesterday to pre empt my deal ending in August. Reduced a couple of things, upgraded BB speed and bill will go from what would be £103.75 a month in August to £81 a month starting in July. Remaining contract on the old deal was scrapped and a new 12 month one starting on Monday, enough time to watch the 4 shows on the V+ box before sending it back to them.

Re: New packages- whats the real difference?

I'm loving the way we are all receiving notification from VM advising that a certain package would be better value than the current one.

I have received two emails now reminding that I would be better on the Big Kahuna package, and to amend online before the end of this month. Only problem is, VM seem to have forgotten that the VIP pack also included Sky Sports & Sky Movies, and an additional V HD box. We also have a second VHD box.

Having looked online, the Big Daddy package would be akin to the old VIP, but only includes the TiVo, with no additional V HD. Unfortunately for VM, the Big Daddy does not appear in the My Offers section of the website, otherwise it should have been easy enough to upgrade. Although, I have so much to watch on the existing V+HD that an upgrade to TiVo would probably not be timely.

In terms of price, I think the Big Daddy & 2 additional V HDs would probably result in a saving of around £2 - perhaps not major enough to warrant locking into an 18 month contract.

Sound exactly the same as my experience although I have a smaller landline package.

I was on about £95 a month, XL TV, 30MB BB with no movies. It was too much. Phoned them up, got the Big Kahuna, increased my BB speed by 5 times and charged me £2 less. Pretty good deal.

I've since cancelled sky sports though. First time in 7 years. I just cannot justify the cost anymore. So I'm on about £64 a month now.

Re: New packages- whats the real difference?

I was on Xl tv plus sky sports, 60mb broadband and evening /weekend calls for £65.12 a month, phoned up to see what the Big Kahuna package included and was told that I could have 152mb broadband and sky movies for only £3 more a month than I was paying already !!!!!!!,making it £68.12 so as you can imagine I snapped his hand off.
