V+ HD box payment

Hi

I'm wondering if someone can help jog my memory or at least prove i'm not going nuts. I seem to remember, but as yet cannot find any record of, buying my V+ HD box off Virgin Media for around £100-150 a couple of years after original installation.

I believe i used to pay a £5 per month charge for the V+ box rental and then received a letter or other communication around 2010 saying i could purchase the box from them for a one-off fee of £100/150 and i would then no longer need to pay the £5/month charge.

Can anyone confirm this or let me know that i'm just making it up?

Thanks

Re: V+ HD box payment

There has never been an option to buy the box outright. However there was a fee reduction option to do what you said, convert from paying a higher monthly fee to a lower option. The box still remained/remains property of VM though.

Re: V+ HD box payment

IIRC customers on the old system of renting the box at £15pm (£5 if on XL) with no one off charge could join new customers and pay a lump sum. This resulted in the rental charge being reduced to £5 (nil if on XL).

I paid £75, but I have a feeling that this was with a 50% off promotion.

I know that many people mistakingly believed that the lump sum meant they were buying the V+ box. In fact I was once actually told this by a CS rep!

Also, I have met a fair few people who believe that the install fee is a purchase of their basic cable STB!

Re: V+ HD box payment

Not quite right. The original monthly charge for V+ was £10 on TV XL and £15 on other TV levels. Both were reduced by £10 on payment of a one-off charge, making it a zero monthly charge if on TV XL and £5 per month on other levels.
