Which 23 - 24 inch monitor?

Hey all,
Thanks to a previous thread I have decided to upgrade my monitor. I have around £200 to spend.

I currently have a NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT graphics card hooked up by DVI to a Samsung SyncMaster 971P.

I have narrowed it down to the following list below.

Which is best, which would you pick?

I am drawn to the Samsung at the moment and the Dell UltraSharp U2412M, but possibly through an alliance to Samsung and the Dell seems to have some bad reviews.

Look forward to replies!

Asus MX239H

Asus VS239H

Dell P2414H

Dell UltraSharp U2414H

Samsung S24D590PLX

And the wild card and a bit out of price range:
Philips 278G4DHSD

Personally i'd go for the U2414H

Here's a review of it where it does quite favourably http://pcmonitors.info/reviews/dell-u2414h

Re: Which 23 - 24 inch monitor?

The BenQ BL2411PT has some good reviews and is 16:10 for those extra vertical pixels.

My problem is finding one that doesn't cost the earth to replace a 19" CRT monitor. I don't want to loose pixels in either direction from the 1600x1200 I currently run. Must be as good as the CRT for
viewing angle
colour - photo work
clarity - office work
response - games and video watching

and so on. Seems that some are good at one thing, some others but nothing as generally good all round.

The other fun I've had with flat monitors at work is that CRT's can adjust to various resolutions so if some software starts at some odd resolution I can still see to make corrections. On flat screens I've often encountered blank screens or out of resolution messages. And this is more modern technology?

Re: Which 23 - 24 inch monitor?

I had the same problem deciding on a monitor, took me ages compared to a custom built PC.

I ended up with the BenQ2450HM as it comes with built in speakers (not brilliant but helpful) as mainly the sound goes to an AV. I had a Samsung syncmaster t220 beforehand and the BenQ is so much better so I can easily say I'm very pleased with the one I now have. (It's not that expensive either). Also it's so bright I have to use a custom setting with all the settings basically down to very low as it's blinding on normal.

I found for every good review there was nearly always equal amounts of negative reviews for every monitor I looked at which made the decision that much harder.

The main thing is the new monitors today are a lot nicer than a few years ago.

Re: Which 23 - 24 inch monitor?

Its honestly a tough one, but its between the Dell U2414H and Samsung, I think.

Im a sucker for Samsung, but the Dell just seems to shine

Very confused.

Re: Which 23 - 24 inch monitor?

I've had good service from my Iiyama monitors, both the 17" CRT Vision Master and the 19" flatscreen LCD Proliite.

The LCD is fast and has an excellent viewing angle with negligible colour shift off centre. Has a built in amplifier and speakers. I would certainly buy Iiyama again.

Same here, I've got an iiyama E2472HD which has given me excellent service so far. Great watching HD on it.
