Wanting to upgrade to Tivo, but......
I've still got an old V+ box and for a while now I've been meaning to take the plunge and go TiVo. However, the one thing that's been slowing me down is the number of recordings I've still got to get through on the V+. Seeing as most are on-going series, the list never really gets any shorter so it's a catch22. So would I be able to upgrade to Tivo in the living room and keep hold of the V+ and put it on another TV but without hooking it up to the VM network ie run it as a standalone box hooked up to the bedroom TV via an HDMI? I don't want to trail another cable through the flat just for the sake of a few weeks of clearing down a load of recordings? I have a feeling the answer will be no.....

Basically the answer is no. But why not get the TiVo installed next to the V+? Set up your series links on the TiVo, then switch back to watching the V+. You'd have to cover up the IR receiver on the TiVo (just under the standby button on the front panel) to stop it picking up the commands from the V+ remote - they use the same codes.
Or just cut your losses. Once you've got a TiVo you can record far more than you'll ever be able to watch!

Thanks for the reply. That was going to be plan B, having it next to the Tivo for the short-term if standalone wasn't an option. It's not my stuff clogging up the HDD, but the missus' reams of trash from the US.....so secretly I was hoping to banish her to the other room to watch it!

It used to be the case that if you were on the XL package you'd get to keep your V+/VHD for free when upgrading to TiVo , I'm still getting the extra box for free. Maybe they're not offering this any longer, but worth asking -?

You can set the tivo to record the repeats of the series she likes and maybe some of your wife's recordings are mirrored on the catch up service so losing them wouldn't be to traumatic. Worth checking before you broach the subject of getting rid of the V+.
