Are VM still "fixing" V+ boxes.

I have a VIP package that includes 1 TiVo, 1 V+ & 1V HD boxes. The V+ is playing up. Freezing, unresponsive to remote for 30 secs, rebooting on own accord etc. It has only started doing this in the last few weeks and happens maybe once every day or two at the moment - but I suspect it is on it's way out. I know from forum posts a year or so ago, the engineers then carried replacement V+ boxes, to install if they couldn't fix V+ problems.

Is that still the case - or have they now gone TiVo only ? I don't really want to have to pay an install charge or an increased subscription.

Just want to be mentally prepared for when I call them!

Thanks John

Re: Are VM still "fixing" V+ boxes.

V+ boxes are still being replaced with V+ boxes. Don't expect to change your V+ for a TiVo without some sort of upfront charge (unless you can convince Retentions).

Remember also that TiVo has an additional £5 per month charge over V+ (again unless you can convince Retentions to defray some or all of this additional charge).

Cheers for that. Strangely I prefer the V+ to the TiVo - I am just an old luddite I guess - so am happy to hear this - I am not looking for a cheap/no cost tiVo update as the V+ box is the one I use in my back room for the sports whilst SWMBO records every reality show on the air on the TiVo.

Just be warned there are many reports of reliability problems with the refurb V+ boxes they fit now. You may get lucky, but don't be surprised if you have problems.

But how many people would report if they didn't have a problem?

The V+ is a very reliable box. If people have problems after a box swap, the chances are the box wasn't faulty in the first place, and they have some other fault (e.g. poor signal quality)

Just reading up about how much VM kit gets recycled or refurbished link here

In my case I am giving VM a ring (number supplied on above link) to collect my old cable modem that is gathering dust after my self install to a new SH2.

Re: Are VM still "fixing" V+ boxes.

After a bit of persuading on my part to get VM to send me a recycle returns bag, now the item has been sent off!

VM should understand that some of us want our obsolete kit securely recycled and not end up on any auction site for some unwitting person is duped into buying it!
