NHS: Migrants To Be Charged For A&E Care
http://news.sky.com/story/1188282/nh...r-a-and-e-care
This is a part that will not work. Reason why, two years ago they tried the same and it failed costing thw NHS millions of pounds.
When migrants got to the hospital or GP, most of them are skint and have no address, so how can the NHS claim the money back from them.
With my GP, any patient must supply a NHS number to get free treatment, and if migrants have one its probably a fake one.
Its like the migrants in London at the moment, all of them have stated in the papers that they have no money, and they are sleeping rough - so where is the hospitals going to send the bill.

Something definitely needs to be done yes - but you don't need to make things up to get your point across.

Re: Won't work - another waste of money
Our local hospital ER (the largest in Wales) stopped admissions last Saturday evening because the place was overflowing with people demanding free treatment for mostly minor ailments.
I was told that unusually the majority were not "health tourists" or "immigrants" but locals unable to get a GP appointment over the festive period.
But I was told it was more usual for large numbers of immigrants and foreign visitors (of all kinds) to be the ones demanding free treatment, and most were not even registered with a GP or had a reasonable grasp of English.
Trying to sort through that lot medically is probably a nightmare, without adding admin on top trying to get payments out of them!

Arthur, from the link you supplied in your OP...

But consultations with GPs and nurses will remain free of charge, to ensure initial access remains to prevent public health risks such as TB, HIV and sexually-transmitted infections.

Why would they need to send the bill anywhere ? Aside from the free treatment that will remain free they would provide means of payment before treatment as happens in every other hospital that charges

100% of migrants were interviewed were they?
Come on Arthur how can you type that and think its correct. Not all migrants are poor and living on the streets. Many have jobs and can look after themselves. In the same way that not ALL those claiming benifits are lazy and don't want to work.

Re: NHS: Migrants To Be Charged For A&E Care
How will the Government distinguish between 'health tourists' and long-term migrants? Presumably it will be by their NI numbers or have they covered this already? Not much information in that article.

Re: NHS: Migrants To Be Charged For A&E Care
While they might fill in low paid jobs over here or work shifts we chose not to work which I dont mind the problem I have is the NHS and GP's going to bursting point with the influx of new people entering the country.
We are already short staffed on our ward and don't have enough money to get more staff, update, replace and get new equipment needed.
It will be interesting to see how this pans out over the next 2 years
