Suddenly takes twice as long to set anything

I have recently discovered, when I set up my recordings for the week on Tivo, that if I want to modify a recording; say, add a few more minutes, it takes twice as long to do it. At least three more clicks of the remote through the various menus. Then, afterwards, I get taken right back to the present date and time, rather than back to the place where I was. I can be setting up a recording right at the end of the week, only to be taken, after modifying it, back to the present date and time! Then of course, this necessitates having to scroll all the way foward to where I was originally!
This state of affairs also applies to lists of planned recordings; if I want to cancel or modify a planned recording, there is the same rigmarole of extra clicks of the remote and then I am taken back to the very beginning of the list, rather than to where I left it! I think Virgin will find that remotes are wearing out a lot faster in the future!
Plus...do I really need to be told, when switching on my Tivo box, that it is 'Waking Up'? Or...when I switch it off into to standby having finished watching something, that I will not be able to watch TV or recordings in this mode, but that it will still record anything planned? Really? Pretty obvious when you think about it!
Virgin, if it ain't broke - don't fix it! You have just made everything take twice as long as it used to and caused a lot of inconvenience!

I can only assume they are catering for the lowest comon denominator. People who need this sort of 'Obvious' pointing out to them, are not capable of operating a Tivo Box anyway!

Re: Suddenly takes twice as long to set anything

I Don't have the update yet - sounds less than ideal in this area. Should be user configurable so that the behavior can be set as you want - little chance of that happening though.

Have you tried using the Manage My Tivo options from My TV Anywhere form a web browser? May be quicker for settings things up in the way you want with your recordings and for getting rid of old recordings too.

I don't want to 'Manage My Recordings from anywhere' - I have no use for it. I am elderly and I just want to manage things from the Tivo box like I always have, without all these unnecessary extra steps. Also, I have no trouble getting rid of old recordings. I just delete them permanently from the 'Deleted Items' folder, so that stuff I do want to keep don't get deleted automatically.

Re: Suddenly takes twice as long to set anything

The Browser suggestion was just that, a suggestion. I fully understand how annoying it is when so called "improvements" are made. Sorry I can't help with any other ideas for making this work like it used to. Maybe someone else can offer further advice.

Are you modifying recordings from the guide? Try using the My Planned Recordings screen instead (press Home then 2).

Maybe the phrasing of the prompts is a little patronising but a *lot* of people assume that it will not record in standby, so it may not be as obvious as you think.

Whether something is obvious to you does not mean it is obvious to everyone...

Tivo should be for all not just those who "get" technology... I agree with Stuart it is only a matter of phrasing and that is easily sorted.

To me the latest upgrade is a delight.

Yes, I am using the Guide. And yes also, I am having to set up all my recordings from the Guide and then going to the 'Planned Recordings' and altering times, etc. from there. It is just that it was so much easier to make any alterations there and then; immediately after having set the recording, whilst it is still fresh in my mind.
I think Virgin have made these changes and someone has inadvertently changed something that was good at the same time. Surely whoever it was can rectify this mistake?
As far as I can see, the only difference the changes have made to me personally, is that the box is a little more responsive. ie. I do not get the little red circle going around while I'm waiting for it to do what I want. (What they ought to do, and it is long overdue, is something about the pixelation in the picture!)

A bit over the top, Itshim! Most of us appreciate this upgrade as being an improvement. This one little blip does not mean the whole upgrade is 'rubbish'.

With a bit of luck, they will be able to sort this minor problem before the next big update.
