Superhub 2 5ghz Drop outs help...

Hi all,

Had the new SH2 for about 3 weeks and been ok. Just noticed the last couple of days that 5ghz has dropped out a few times but when switching to 2ghz is fine. A reboot seems to sort it out but just wondering why this would only apply to the 5ghz.

What would cause this?...

All my devices are 5ghz wifi apart from daughters iPhone 4.

Many thanks - Pudders

Re: Superhub 2 5ghz Drop outs help...

Possibly distance. Does it drop when just a couple of feet away?

Gotta say, btw, my 5 GHz never drops out although I don't try to connect to it upstairs, for example.

It's random and anywhere - withing 10 feet. Never had a problem before and when I check the router the 5ghz light is flashing like an error rather than a data flow flash.

It drops on all devices... it's like the internet is down on all devices but flickng over to 2ghz works... most odd.

Seems ok at the mo...

Re: Superhub 2 5ghz Drop outs help...

It's supposed to flash when in use. But you are on the old firmware that we triallists had in April. We're on different firmware now and that phenomenon is not reported. Truth to tell, I don't recall that phenomenon reported on your firmeware version.

Re: Superhub 2 5ghz Drop outs help...

I have had that a couple of times.

Have you had a look with inSSIDer?

Re: Superhub 2 5ghz Drop outs help...

Im getting the same issue myself, not had the superhub 2 a week and happened last night, all my devices see the network and can connect but no internet! Doing a little bit of digging it looks like an IP address conflict (2 devices using 192.168.0.7 on my network) If i connect to my airport extreme 2ghz network that I have connected to the superhub via ethernet then I can access the net and the superhub settings.

Restarting the router fixes it but not for long!

Cheers

Are you using DHCP or have fixed IP addresses? Also do you run DHCP on both the airport extreme and the SH2?

I ran the SH2 in router mode from Aptil through July. The first couple of weeks were on v19 firmware (which is on public release).

I had my Airport Extreme attached by wthernet and I had wireless running on both the SH2 and AE. At no time did I have any issue with WiFi on either routing device.

To be sure, for touter mode, I set the AE Internet setting to BRIDGE mode (not Public Shared IP)

Re: Superhub 2 5ghz Drop outs help...

If the SH2 is anything like the SH1, that had a bug where it really didn't like having devices move between different ports or interfaces, and connecting certain second routers could basically make it keel over and explode.

Re: Superhub 2 5ghz Drop outs help...

I have been playing with this a bit over the past few days, though it was a DHCP conflit with the airport and the SH2 so have totally removed the airport from the network all together and I still have the same issue!

All devices still have a valid IP address but no internet, the 5ghz light on the superhub appears to flash like a car indicator, not like having traffic run through it. I have to connect to the 2.4ghz network to get any internet to work unless i restart my superhub.

Going to restore it to factory default and set it up again to see if that has any affect, im currently on v19 firmware, is there an update? If so how do I update the firmware on the SH2?

Cheers

Re: Superhub 2 5ghz Drop outs help...

There's a V26 firmware upgrade coming out - rumoured to be end of August depending on the VM triallist feedback.

Re: Superhub 2 5ghz Drop outs help...

v26 firmware doesn't make any difference i'm on it just now and mine still disappears until rebooted, 2.4ghz has no problems at all.

A few others on the VM forum have had the same too.

Re: Superhub 2 5ghz Drop outs help...

Can you ping the router at the time the dropouts happen?

Re: Superhub 2 5ghz Drop outs help...

I factory reset the router last night and the same thing happened, left it over night and still had no internet, connected back to 2.4ghz and working fine, then reconnected to the 5ghz network and have connection again.
I definitely think this is to do with DHCP but looking at the settings I cant see any duplicate IP addresses! Gonna ring VM today and try to get this sorted out!

Will try to ping the router once it drops off again

Cheers

Good luck with VM, Scottie. You have more knowledge than some of the people you'll be speaking to.
