Sky's Bruce Willis broadband ad banned.

Quote:
BSkyB's ad starring Bruce Willis has been banned by the advertising watchdog for misleading consumers about the true cost of Sky Broadband Unlimited, which it claimed costs half the price of BT's at £7.50 per month.

Re: Sky's Bruce Willis broadband ad banned

Another example of a TV / Broadband provider not being clear about their pricing. I'm tired of companies being misleading.

Re: Sky's Bruce Willis broadband ad banned

Well their TV service is pretty strong but alas my and my familys experiences of their broadband have basically shown that they have a awful long way to go if they ever want to get up to Virgins standard.

Virgin has one on at the moment that shouts out that it only costs 4 quid a month, yet the minimum cost is £18 or £19.

Never noticed the price on the Willis advert but all ISP's need to be slapped and told to only advertise the actual minimum cost that a customer can get the service for.

Re: Sky's Bruce Willis broadband ad banned

I'm not sure about this. I just joined sky for a backup line and I got the internet for free for 6 months (only paying line rental) and then £7.50 a month for unlimited.

So was it misleading? My first bill supports their claim! Not sure how unlimited it is as I only have 11mbps but I can still shift some data I am sure!

In fact here's my bill - am I looking at this all wrong? (they have been true to their word on the phone when I ordered it)

Re: Sky's Bruce Willis broadband ad banned

Instead of so much hoo-ha about regulating advertising all over the place and fighting a futile, losing battle against big corporate, wouldn't we be better off teaching people common sense and actually looking at prices properly before buying?

I mean, the number of times banks, ISPs, phone companies, airlines, train companies, shops, cafes, and everyone else has had adverts "banned" for "not being obvious enough about prices" and yet it still keeps going, we'd be a lot better off just learning to deal with it.

There's enough crap on the news, watchdog, and even "documentary" shows that's misleading or false that taking anything you see in an ad at face value is pretty naive. Unless you're 5 years old and have never had a run-in with the real world...

Re: Sky's Bruce Willis broadband ad banned

I had a Sky guy in my local shopping centre try selling Sky to me give me the whole crap about Sky being the way forward and even went as far to tell me that Virgin are starting to pull out of the Broadband market due to lack of customers and being heavy in debt.

I told him where to go as I had already compared Sky against my current package and it didn't make much difference in price and I get a lot less BB for the price

True. Whatever restrictions they place on advertising, there will always be a way around it.

People should always try at research any product or service they are buying, even down to looking at any terms and conditions. After all, they could be committing to spending a large amount of money over a long time.

As part of my job, I am in charge of a system that enables students to borrow equipment that is (in some cases) worth thousands of pounds. Obviously, we require that they sign a contract before they do this. Almost no one checks the terms and conditions of the contract. As part of the process, because some of the equipment has many parts, we go through what the student is borrowing, checking it. Students are supposed to go through it with us so they can confirm they have the necessary parts. Almost no one does, they just sign the contract (one of the terms states they should be checking what they are handed as they will be held accountable if it's either missing or damaged when the student returns the rest of the equipment).

Re: Sky's Bruce Willis broadband ad banned

the day VM pull out of broadband is the day they cease to exist.

broadband is where they make their cash aside from calls, its tv they lose money on.

I guess people will say anything for a sale.
