Tivo problem
I'm wondering whether anyone else has had this problem. My Tivo box has recently started to refuse recording series links on an intermittent basis. Individual recordings don't seem to be affected, but it's a pain having to go through the epg day by day, or week by week. Could this be a Virgin or a Tivo problem?

Re: Tivo problem
It may be errors in the guide data that can be corrected. Can you post specific examples?

Re: Tivo problem
I recently set Casualty to record a series link on BBC HD with no problem. Last night I tried to set a series link to NCIS on Fox HD, but it refused to show a series link on the epg and I had to set several of them to record manually.

Re: Tivo problem
Check to make sure new only is not set as default, as it will only pick up those designated new. You want new and reruns.

Re: Tivo problem
^^^ What he said
Also be aware that TiVo will record the first episode it can. So if you set a series link on a repeat, it may record an early showing instead.

My box has been set to record new only since I first got it, and I've never had this problem before. If this is the reason for the problem it looks like I'm going to have to live with it as I don't want things recording that I've already seen. Thanks very much for everybody's help.

Re: Tivo problem
You can change it in an individual series link without it affecting the others. And not only that, if it has been recorded within the previous 28 days it won't be recorded again.

It won't record again the programmes that are already in 'My Shows'. But it will do so once you've deleted it.

Therein lies the answer, NCIS.
There are currently no New episodes of NCIS showing.
The most recent series has just completed on FOX.
Many old series of NCIS are showing on many channels - FOX, Ch5, .....
What channel were you trying to record from?
No wonder NCIS is the most watched program currently showing globally.

I was trying to record from Fox 158HD. As I have said, I have never had this problem before but the difference between new and reruns must be the answer. It is not very helpful when channels advertise programmes as "new to channel --" when it has almost certainly been shown before on other channels. I will have to pay more attention to the date stamp shown on channels before I record them.
Again, thanks to all who have answered, I've learned a bit more.

Re: Tivo problem
Don't worry, it took me a while to get used to it all.

I agree with your sentiment about channels describing things as new.
In this case (NCIS), FOX gets the new series first and, given the latest series has recently finished, all episodes are reruns.
