The real positive, if any, is everyone rushes to help. I've seen things happen before where people simply ignore the event taking place and walk on. It's the whole "not my problem" attitude.

Shame the cameras weren't good enough to get the licence plate number! You would think with the amount of cameras, and the cameras that can read licence plates, there would be enough information to get the driver!

ironic isnt it that a fair few years ago there was an uproar on cameras being put up everywhere, big brothers watching blah blah. now they need to be upgraded.

Well I mean in this case it's a shame. I am really quite neutral on cameras. They're are great in circumstances like this and I don't think it's especially intrusive to be on a camera when you're in a public place though.

everyones entitled to protection and everyones entitled to freedom. i dont see the big deal if camera upgrades were made. its not like the Police will put out live feeds, random pics etc. theres obviously are a fair few cameras of old standards that need upgrading.

The cameras will almost certainly be able to read number plates when zoomed in but to cover a large area need to be zoomed out and can be focused to an event when it's ongoing by the CCTV operator.
To capture live video of a full street that is capable of reading VRM's from a distance would be hugely storage hungry.
That said a combined CCTV system with ANPR cameras on streets is realistic.

Interesting configuration. Now I understand why pixel software is used... in movies/programs could a HD camera pick up more and store more detail running the same config or near abouts, or taking the same, less or little more data storage space than the current system?

Looks like the idiot overtook on zig-zags, I hope they find them and jail them including a life time driving ban

Yep, I time stamped ANPR and cctv is probably the way to go.. I'd be happy with them being at every junction as I've nothing to fear and neither should anyone sticking to the law..
