Just watching some footage on Sky,
I'll leave it to someone else to post a link as I can't find one yet, as it's just happened.

Re: Meteor hits Russia.
Should be no links at all. DA14 is coming from the south, this morning's events came from the north. Just a coincidence, albeit very rare.

Could this fragment from recent meteor which passed which broken off.
Do we know was actually meteor has this confirmed.
This one which passed this year very close will return to me was scary. Not for hitting earth as they worked that out but hitting spacejunk sending it earth or how close to hitting the moon.

No, they're coming from different directions.

cheers russ my post was being written as your already mentioned in another thread.
Although suppose possible collison with another asteroid or clipping one might cause this.
Worry is we should not be cutting funding watching the skies which believe us have in recent years.
Picking something this size would been like needle in haystack.
Why they all pick on russia they had one before first world war although talk is they no impact crater some believe tesla may have had hand with it.

Re: Meteor hits Russia.
Makes you wonder if this is just a one off, or are we heading into an era where such things are going to be more common?
I wonder what would happen if such a meteor came down in a built up area and hit a building/high rise, ala Armageddon heh.

Russia is the biggest country on earth ... 6.6 million sq miles, double the next largest, which is Canada. The odds favour meteorite strikes in Russia over everywhere else, except the oceans, of course, where nobody would see them anyway.

North America has a number of impact sites. The most famous is in South America which has the Chicxulub crater in Mexico where it's believed the meteor that killed Dinosaurs off hit.

good points both you and damien.
AdamD think I say a programme which they said they expect the asteroid belt will become increasingly unstable. Think it was brian Cox.
We also have to wonder why nasa talking of landing on asteriod and plans to even destroy one in experiment in 2020.
They tracking number threats but me these little ones much more dangerous. They hard to track some not breaking up in atmosphere as there not gasses or soft.
I watched tv film I know it was film but the principle could be the same. You can get big meteor shower before the big one I will worry if we hear others reported hitting coming days.
I read if the recent one hit land it would wiped the size london out.
Interesting one is if significant sized one hit water might do more damaging as could cause a tsunami. So the threat is not just if they hit towns.
We been I think pretty lucky.
