VOIP issues since being upgraded to new SH with R37

HI My Father uses a VOIP phone for calling relations in Australia and it has been working fine for years. Last week he was given a new modem (SH with R37) and since then the VOIP phone will not register with the VOIP provider. I have a SH with R36, so I took his phone home and connected it to my SH and it registered successfully, straight out of the bag so to speak. Took it back to his house, plugged it in, failed to register.

I am guessing that the SH R37 is somehow blocking the request to register, but have no idea what it could be. I have factory reset it and that made on difference, hoping somebody may be able to point me in the right direction on this one.

Thanks

Re: VOIP issues since being upgraded to new SH with R37

I rebooted my SH which had R36 on it and it upgraded to R37. This then reproduced the issue on my SH as well. Interestingly, I have my own VOIP phone, a Gigaset DE900 IP Pro and this worked ok. So it looks like the Grandstream is not compatible.

Not to be beaten, I found a workaround and it now works ok. I bought a cheap router from PC World and hooked that up to the SH, but left the SH still in router mode. I then plugged the phone into the cheap router and it worked immediately. Why this works, I do not know, probably need a network guru to explain that one away.

With R36 some VOIP/SIP was broken. They fixed those in R37 and at the same time broke other VOIP devices which worked fine on R36 :P
