Re: Help with friends connection

They are OK if the upstreaqm is around the 43 dBmv mark and in any case not higher than 54 dBmv.

It's alwasy best to post both upstream & downstream.

Re: Help with friends connection

I'll ask for the upstream then. Thanks for looking so far though.

I've attached a copy of the upstream levels and I hope this helps.

Re: Help with friends connection

Assuming the upstream is stable around that number, your friend's stats are perfectly good.

There are T3 errors in the log. So what problem is the friend experiencing?

Re: Help with friends connection

They were saying they were un-happy with their 30Mb service after checking the speeds speedtest.net were reporting they had. I also checked my speed test results from the same site at around the same time and noticed the speeds reported weren't great either. However after 24 hours there was a perfect result from both our connections.

I'm usually very happy with my VM broadband 100Mb service and can rarely find a fault when using a wired connection to the Super Hub.

I think my friends have just tried using the site at the wrong time of day.

Should they report the T3 errors to tech. support?

Re: Help with friends connection

No. The T3 errors could be exclusively during a series of reboots. Or they could be down to congestion. It's when they turn to T4s that a solid look needs to be taken. The T3 errors occur if the SH doesn't respond to a keep-alive poll. That response goes out on the upstream; if upstream is congested, it might not get out in time. A T4 event occurs when this has happened 16 times in a row - then the SH resets (soft reboot). That level of congestion needs reporting because if the upstream is buggered the downstream suffers too.

BTW speedtest.net is no longer reliable (IMO) because of volume of users piling in. I use Jack Dinn's JDAST, which does multi-threaded transfers, ping & jitter. Just Google that. Beautiful graphical record is kept as well.
