VM Router : 2 routers

Is it possible to have 2 routers/super hubs in one house using the same broadband ? in other words a router connected in the attic office and one in the front room both on seperate cables back to the box with the signal split, thus boosting my wireless range ?

You only have one broadband connection per account. Thus you only get one cable modem / router provided. You will not be able to obtain a second modem / router from official sources, and cannot get activated any illegitimately obtained modem / router.

In some cases it has been possible, depending on how the property is considered by Virgin Media, to register two separate user accounts (generally you've got to be seen as a multi household property), in which case you would have two separate bills, and two connections available for broadband. That's expensive.

Your best option is to have the router, run an ethernet cable from it to the other location and add a second wireless access point there. Alternatively you might consider the homeplug type networking that uses your power cable wiring.

Because of Virgins cock ups when engineers were installing shubs but not giving customers the mains adaptor that was in the box with the shub but using the 10v one from their old modem, I was sent another shub because Virgin cant send out a mains adaptor on its own. The guy said to keeep the second shub as a spare. Is there any way to set this up say upstairs as a modem as the wireless from the original shub is nt great upstairs. Presently using 200mb mains adaptor plugs at the moment but dont get the full 30mb from the shub using these.

the shub doesnt have to be connect to your outside connection to work dude. You are getting yourself in a but of a pickle because if you are putting a shub upstrairs you need it to work as a router and not a modem. It is the modem but you need downstrairs to get your outside connection. If you can run a cable upstairs or through the floor/wall or something you can connect your spare shub to the one downstairs and continue to use it as normal to connect wired devices to and use it for wireless. You'll have to change a few options like disabling dhcp on it because you'll want your shub downstairs to act as the core router and hand out ip addresses to all the devices on the network.

You get a PSU in the box if sent from Kuene and Nagel when ordered by an technical support agent, only you guys seem to get them boxed separately.

I am aware of that and wonder why one version is in the warehouse and another is sent to the techs, does not make sense.

To save money, we don't need psus if we are swapping a regular hub or superhub for a superhub

But when replacing a modem it causes anger which in turns incurs more cost for the company considering the are still more modems than hubs .

I guess VM also consider giving the dudes who fail to use the 12v PSU when it is needed insufficient training is money saving too....

From the posts talking about such issues it seems to be down to speed and the tech wanting to get away as quickly as possible, now if they went into the property with the same box as the support agents send out from central warehousing then the is no excuse for using the old PSU.

The QuickStart boxes are huge, they won't fit in the van if I carry 15. Also there is so much cardboard it would be wasteful. What about replacment superhubs, what am I going to do with all the extra psus

The Superhub comes in a smaller box inside with the PSU so it is down to the logistics side as you would not need the splitter, ethernet cable or internal cabling kit unless you wanted some extras for the van, things that make sense never happen though.

It will never be sorted and we all know it.

So you think they are aware that they've left an under-rated and therefore potentially dangerous PSU in the customers house - sounds like poor management to me because if that really is the case they should be going through the disciplinary procedure and if contractors simply binned immediately.
