FREE Speed Upgrade
So I have had 2 calls from Virgin telling me I have the free upgrade from 10Mb to 60Mb and will get a free hub etc.
My monthly fee goes up by around £4 :-(
Is this the same for everyone?
How is it free if I have to pay?

Re: FREE Speed Upgrade
Thats not a free upgrade. if you have to PAY per month extra. its not a free upgrade.
A free upgrade is when there is...
ZERO increase in monthly cost.
Zero install fee.
Zero super hub price charge.
10Mb/s get free upgrade to 30Mb/s
20Mb/s - 30Mb/s get free upgrade to 60Mb/s
50Mb/s get free upgrade to 100Mb/s
with No price increase per month...
Its a Free install offer only..that they were offering, before they would try to get you to pay for both the install and increased speed.
Its been posted before here that Phone calls are buy an independant commission based Sales firms that are never upto date with the correct offers...

Re: FREE Speed Upgrade
as above, I think they are moving you up a tier to 30mbit and then giving you the fre speed double to 60mbit. For £4 it is an excellent speed increase but you need to decide whether you want it or not. You are going to have to have a shub either way for any speed upgrade because 30mbit+ is on docsis 3. You just need to decide how much juice you want and if you are happy with 30mbit then that is what you should be getting as the free speed upgrade for your tier and ring them up and tell them that is all you want.

Re: FREE Speed Upgrade
When i look on the web page it says "Congratulations! The new double speed boosts are already up and running in your area" LE67, so phoned then.
Was told the only way they can up my speed is to pay to go onto 20 mb's, then i'll still get a free upgrade later.
Not a happy chappie

We had the free upgrade from 10Mb to 20Mb for free, we then took up the option to go to 30Mb for a 1 off payment of £20 for the SuperHub. If we want to go to 60Mb we can get it for an extra £5pm so your £4 isnt to bad IMO.

You did not need to pay that £20 if you had haggled a bit more. They are allowed to ditch the Fee, as you are doing VM a favour in Ditching the old modem for super hub.

Most of the time the fee is waived for customers on L if you are upgrading to a different tier. So if you go from L to XL you wouldn't pay the fee
For the no cost reiter from L 10 / 20 to L 30 then the free is correct as you aren't paying any more per month
The exception for customers on M or L is if the current modem can't do 20Mbit, so they'll get a free SuperHub swap.

About 3 months ago, around the time I was upgraded from 10 Mb to 20Mb, the PSU on my Ambit 256 failed and they sent me out a SuperHub at no cost. Very happy with it and got the automatic upgrade to 30Mb, Speedtest.net gives a result never below 30Mb usually 31-32Mb whatever time of day I test and wireless range and performance is comparable to the Dlink router I used before.
I must be one of the few subscribers on this forum happy with my Shub!

Re: FREE Speed Upgrade
I'm happy with both my Superhub(s), as long as they continue sitting unplugged in my "to deal with later" draws.

Ben I am on L 10Mb legacy broadband, sorry so can I upgrade then to up to 30Mb broadband at no extra cost? upgrading could I lose my current SKY loyalty retention deal and finally if I go for it and have problems with the Wf-Fi on the SuperHub can I set it to modem mode and use my own wireless router for my Apple mac computer?
Thanks for your help in advance!

They keep calling me adn I keep suggesting the deal that is on the home page because the Tivo that I habe is only 500Gb - the new customer deal if for 1TB.
I dont want to increase my monthly fee but they are not giving that option.

Phone VM via 150 and ask For your completely Free Upgrade to 30Mb/s like every one else has been getting...
Remain polite and hang up if the first CS rep won't offer it to you.
Ring 150 again and hope for different CS rep.
If they still refuse.
Ring 150 again this time select the "thinking of leaving" option and try again...
The offer is...
Free superhub install (with the free engineer) or postal if you want. Free activation, free increase to 30Mb/s. Zero increase in monthly cost...
Im not the only one whos had the completely free upgrade offer.
As long as you only go up to 30Mb/s. (get the engineer to check power levels before he leaves as well... I forgot. I came back here and was told they were wrong.)

Re: FREE Speed Upgrade
I called them today and got the upgrade to 30Mb - £20 for postage on the router. Tried getting that take offf but I got cut off - at their end I think!
The upgrade will not be here until November at the earliest so if I just wait they will contact me with the hub for free :-)
Thanks all
