VM street furniture.

I posted the following on the VM forum:NO REPLIES!!

Quote:
I couldn`t find an apropriate board to post this on so if a mod wants to move it................................

I`m fed up with reporting vandalism to a VM junction box in my street. The cover`s been ripped off exposing cables for at least 20 properties! The box is also far too small to accomodate all the cables.I`ve reported it several times to no avail.

Similar happened a few months ago and then it took an email to the VM CEO to get it fixed!!

The box location is SA1 2HB a few metres from no.64

I wish I could get through to the local call centre but it`s always elsewhere.

If someone could please act upon this post I`d be grateful before half the street lose their service, myself included.

Thank you.
Perhaps I`ll get more luck posting it here. Ta.

Well here's a reply at least -

Why on earth would you expect posting about a vandalised cab on this board would get it fixed quicker than telling VM about it?

Re: VM street furniture.

Good luck with the official routes suggested!

It took many emails and phone calls over a period of at least 12 months to get the vandalized cabinet at the end of my road attended to!

They did attend 2 or 3 times and tape some polythene sheeting over it, of course this disappeared with days. Finally the old grey cabinet was replaced with a nice shiny green one which so far has been left alone!

Re: VM street furniture.

Oh I certainly never suggested there would be anything done - I just asked why the OP though asking here would be quicker.

I've seen lots of comments about this sort of thing - the "engineers" in these parts regularly cba to go back to lock up cabs they've opened - after all they could be 100m or more away from the van.

I understand what you mean, but to be fair to the OP the whole process can be very frustrating. And this forum does have a lot of knowledgeable and helpful people who may be able to give helpful advice on how to speed up the process.

Very annoying to lose your services due to cables being ripped out of an open street cabinet, luckily I've not had that happen but I know people who have!

Re: VM street furniture.

I have seen many Virgin Media cabs open but I have not seen a BT cabinet open.
I believe it is because the locking of BT cabs is more secure against vandals.

In this area we still have the small grey poor quality street cabinets that are a legacy of Andover Cablevision. These are flat topped and just the right height for people to sit on, and to kick in the shoddy sheet metal front opening!

These are slowly being replaced by VM with better quality cabinets that look similar to BT cabinets but they certainly don't look as robust as the huge BT Infinity Cabinets along the road.

Its basically down to pride and contractors, BT on the whole probably have engineers that work for BT,Openreach ect, Virginmedia have had all sorts of contractors for installations that don't care as is the same for alot of the in house Service tech's.

The cabinets in my area were installed by Telecencial 33 kbs, they were taken over by Comtel then NTL and now Virgin Media

Quite simple really VM cabinets are opened a lot more than BT ones.

Most people have a BT line into their house, if they switch providers or are disconnected they rarely need a new cable installed from the BT cab to their house.

VM are always opening cabs for installs, disconnects and fault finding.

And unfortunately some contractors that don't have the correct keys will break a cab open to ensure they complete their quota of installs.

Not anymore, Openreach FTTC services (e.g. BT Infinity, Sky fibre, etc.) require BT PCP cabinets to be opened for installs, disconnects, migrations and fault finding, and BT are doing a lot more fibre installs than VM these days.
