Best router for 100Mb Service

Hi,

I'm moving over to virgin media on the 26th June and getting the 100Mb service. I was wondering, what's the best router to go for?

I've read in many places that the linksys E4200? I think is the best router for the job, but it doesn't have the ability to speed limit an IP address on the local network.

The only router that i've found so far is the Draytek 2130n which has that ability. I've used draytek routers in the past *2600 and 2820n* and i haven't had any issues with using them on ADSL services and I'm hoping for the moment that I can use the 2820n WAN port with the 100Mb service before the speed upgrade to 120Mb.

Any help would be grateful

David

Re: Best router for 100Mb Service

The 2820 will work ok with the 100Mb service but the processor/firmware limits the WAN-LAN throughput to a maximum of about 50Mb/sec. I used a 2820Vn on the 50Mb service for a long time with no problems at all.

I've recently upgraded to the 100Mb service and like you, I have been looking for a higher performance router and am considering the Linksys E4200 and the Draytek 2130n. I'm currently using the Superhub and suffering from the disconnect/reboot problems.

In the end, I'll probably opt for the Draytek because it's got so many features, one or two of which I got to rely on in the 2820.

pfSense will do what you want, however you will need a spare PC to run it on. I've been toying with the idea of setting one up myself ....

Re: Best router for 100Mb Service

Just replaced my Vigor 2930 with a TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND running DD-WRT.

Are you wanting to cap some clients on your network or just make the traffic to/from that IP have a lower priority? If the latter, I think the QoS setting on DD-WRT will do what you're after?

I am thinking of buying this TP-Link router to replace my DIR-615 (which is also running dd-wrt) for the pending 50->100MB upgrade. What dd-wrt build did you choose and is it stable so far? Thanks ..

I'm using this version on my DIR-615 and can only get a 65Mb wifi connection in both N only mode and NG mode.

With the original firmware i was able to connect at 150Mb . Have you been able to connect at a faster speed?

add this to the startup (Administration --> Commands) and you will get up to 300 Mb

sleep 20
iwpriv ra0 set HtTxStream=2
sleep 5
iwpriv ra0 set HtRxStream=2

also in advanced wifi settings set tx power to 32

Like you, I was getting 54Mb on a 615d with ddwrt but now I get 150 Mb atleast - see screen shot below I have 2 identical 615d on same firmware 18777, one has the above script and the other one doesnt
