Question Can Orange Brightbox be used as wireless access point with Superhub?

I switched to Virgin from Orange and have the Virgin Superhub. I get 30mbps downstairs but wireless signal is patchy upstairs in certain rooms and so the speed drops to 1mbps. I'm aware the Virgin Hub isn't great for its wireless signal so I've decided to try and use my old Orange Brighbox ADSL wireless router as a wireless access point.

I've trawled through the forums and google but can't get this set up working. I know how to turn the Virgin Hub into modem only mode and have connected the laptop and Brightbox router via ethernet LAN, changed the IP address to outside of the DHCP range of Shub and disabled DHCP on Brightbox router. But when I connect the Superhub and Brightbox routers via Ethernet (NOT on WAN port) I don't get any internet?

Am I doing something wrong? Can the Orange Brighbox be used as the wireless access point given its an ADSL router?? I read somewhere I needed to leave the Superhub in normal mode (ie not modem only mode) but that hasn't worked either. What are my options?

Thanks for any advice

You should be able to use the Brightbox as a wireless access point by connecting to one of the LAN ports *but* the SH must to be in 'normal' mode as otherwise you haven't got a router...

Re: Can Orange Brightbox be used as wireless access point with Superhub?

Ok thanks, will have another look into it.

Is the Superhub a good reliable router? Would the Shub + Bringhtbox as access point be a better set-up or the Shub + TP-Link TL-WR1043ND as wireless router?

My main priority is a good wireless signal thoughout the house. I don't have anything hardwired

Re: Can Orange Brightbox be used as wireless access point with Superhub?

The superhubs routing abilities are subject to many debate. Some people have no issues with them, others do. I personally have no problems with it as a router.

The superhubs wireless abilities are acknowleged by most on these forums as "non-existant". Its wireless subsystem is less reliable than 2 paper cups and a piece of string.

Re: Can Orange Brightbox be used as wireless access point with Superhub?

Thanks for the advice. I finally managed to get a connection but am having problems with the wireless connection. The superhub and Brighbox are connected via ethernet. I can get a connection ok when I connect my laptop to the Brightbox via Ethernet. Wireless connection worked for around 5-10mins but since when I try to connect wirelessly there's no internet??

Also I can't access the Brightbox's config page. I changed the Brightbox IP to 192.168.0.251 - when I type this in to Firefox nothing happens, also the old IP 192.168.1.1 also doesnt work??

Additionally my iPhone wont connect to the Brightbox at all (it used to without any problems when I was using it for Orange broadband weeks ago)

Thanks for any help once again

Personally, I would put the SH into modem mode, and just use the TP-Link router. It will be much simpler all round.
