Re: The future of TV

I tried to reply to your post in the Virgin TV forum, but I assume you deleted it? I think it looks potentially a really good bit of kit, and proper competition for TiVo, so hopefully Virgin will feel under pressure to any premium apps that spreaappear on youview. At launch it appears to be a similar product but with obviously fewer channels, except they seem to be prepared to trust their customers to network the box themselves, but TiVo does have the advantage of not eating a chunk out of your downloadallowance eevery time you watch something on demand. That said, Virgin are now facing a threat to their fibre broadband product and their connected stb product. Bt have the football rights and I'm sure they'll look to shift a few youview boxes off the back of that. It will be interesting to see how Virgin respond.

Re: The future of TV

An open platform STB means potential for any feature to be added via apps which makes this very interesting.

I would be interested but not at the initial price of £299. It would have to drop significantly before I would care enough to buy it considering as I have on demand on a number of devices throughout my home.

I deleted it as it wasn't the best place to post it , I'm thinking of getting it as another multiroom option however I'll wait until more boxes are available , I've also just seen this

Couldn't agree more I won't be paying £299 , I'll wait until there are more STB's available and the price comes down. It certainly looks nice though and I think apps will be desperate to get onboard if boxes start flying off the shelves.

Re: The future of TV

The video shows that they at least made a slick system in the extra time they received during the delays.

The STB in the video is a Humax and I assume this is the STB that will be £299. If so then there should be plenty of more reasonable ones available as Humax are the premium end of free platform STBs.

Re: The future of TV

I'm interested to see how Now TV handles linear channels. Provided I can record something that's only available on an IPTV stream, I could be happy to give up my TiVO when I'm out of contract.
