100Mb/VMNG300/SuperHub

Have VM changed their mind about sending out a free SH for the 100Mb upgrade?

From my.virginmedia.com -

"We've done all the checks and it looks like your current modem is fine. Your new super fast broadband is up and running at the speed shown below..

Your new speed is up to 100Mb

If you're going to be using a wireless connection then you might want to swap your modem for a Virgin Media Super Hub, our latest combined modem and router with the best range so you can enjoy fast broadband around your home.

The Super Hub comes free with just a £20 QuickStart fee for installation and you'll automatically begin a new 12 month contract."

opened you can have worms just a of ......

Make the above into a sentence ......

Nah, seriously, that's very interesting. When I upgraded they more or less forced me into a SH, along with a £30 fee and a 12 month contract!

Given the choice I would not have taken the SH as I have my own LAN equipment, but in the end it was an expensive upgrade as I'm back to my VMNG300 and ASUS Router ....

The SH is lying in the corner very much unloved

I had the same letter but when I ordered it I don't think I was charged.

Re: 100Mb/VMNG300/SuperHub

That really is quite the loltastic line. If I was using a wireless connection the superhub would be the least likely thing I'd use. I'd also love them to quantify "the best range". Compared to what? Even a pringles can has better range.

The best range of any VM router.

I suspect that the message from VM is a database error - The speed double has only just happened around here, but if taken at face value they've decided the VMNG300 will cope and they'll charge for a SH.

Actually the VMNG300 will run at a 100 Mbs. But if you use one of their routers Netgear wireless N300 you will find you can actually only achieve about 80 Mbs. Plus it is a future proof option.

Re: 100Mb/VMNG300/SuperHub

I rang retentions and they waived the £20.00 fee for the Super Hub. To be honest I think it's a bit cheeky to try and charge for a self install.

Re: 100Mb/VMNG300/SuperHub

Email from Virgin now received:

"Free upgrade to Virgin Media Super Hub

To make the most of your new speed you'll need the Virgin Media Super Hub as your current modem can't quite keep up with the new speed we've given you. Your new Super Hub could give you our fastest-ever wireless connection. Plus, it also means you'll be ready to receive your upgrade to up to 120Mb as soon as it's available in your area. "

Looking forward to the time that the VM left hand department is introduced to their right hand department...
