I got this weird letter from BT ...
The envelope says it's exciting news about BT Infinity.
Yes - my free 80 meg upgrade!
Wrong: "We're giving you an even better BT Infinity Modem for free. The new modem improves your modem cvonnection, so your BT Infinity will be even better".
I didn't know that my 38/8 had anything that needed improving by way of a new modem.
So what's that all about?

Re: I got this weird letter from BT ...
Apparently some of the modems had an issues with overheating and this caused disconnections. BT are replacing all these modems. I'd mine replaced last week.

Re: I got this weird letter from BT ...
So their letter is a load of spin and gollox. Possibly dishonest. I've never lost service.
I hate that.

Granted it should have read
Hay up Seph, how's it goin, listen dude we messed up with the modem we gave you last time, it just aint up to the job, so have another one on us for free oh and by the way, were giving you a free speed boost by way of compensation.
Laters
BT
I remember Qas I think mentioned some of the old modems had overhearting issues and it was recommended they were wall mounted, I'm guessing the new speed would cause them to run even hotter so in order to prevent loss of service they are correctly replacing the duff kit.

Re: I got this weird letter from BT ...
Indeed. BT are pro-actively replacing modems where the old(er) revisions are known to sometimes overheat. A more reliable (and less prone to overheating) modem is not a bad thing, and hey, they've admitted responsibility and are doing it FOC to you with no loss of service (straight up engineer swap).
The wording of the letter is a bit.. colourful... but they're taking their service seriously and doing something about it before you complain, which not all providers would.

I can't see any reason why it won't be.

The only reason I queried it was because I thought that Seph was insinuating the upgrade wasnt actually free.
I assumed it would be too

Re: I got this weird letter from BT ...
I didnt think they were replacing them due to losing connection, I thought it was a fire hazard

Re: I got this weird letter from BT ...
It's the BT Retail spin on the modem replacement. Nothing major, just Openreach replacing equipment they maintain and service.
