Losing connection frequently

I'm on the 10mb broadband, and every day the connection will drop at least once. This usually occurs when downloading something, watching a video online or viewing a site which contains large images. The only way to get the connection to come back is by turning the modem and router off and back on again.

It's incredibly frustrating, does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this?

Re: Losing connection frequently

i want to say that your downstream power levels are borderline but somebody will correct me and say they are within limits. Something dodgy is going on with all those uncorrectable codewords though.

I'm afraid I don't really know what any of it means. How is something like that usually sorted?

Re: Losing connection frequently

It would usually be sorted by putting a signal reducer on the back of your modem

Re: Losing connection frequently

sweet, there you go then. Ring 150 which will put you through to tech support (most like indian call centres), tell them that you keep losing your connection and that you believe your power levels are too high and hopefully they'll send an engineer out who can fit a 5db attenuator to bring them down. Your connection will be flying after that.

Re: Losing connection frequently

Thanks for the help guys. Unfortunately it's down to my landlord to ring and get it sorted, I've let him know what's going on and what he needs to do, hopefully it'll all be sorted soon!

Are they easy enough to fit?

Re: Losing connection frequently

Yeah just unscrew the cable on the back of the modem, screw on the attentuator, make sure its finger tight, then screw back on the cable to the attenuator. you might need to reboot your modem.

Then hope it works

Well if the landlord doesn't get onto it I'll try and do it myself. Thanks again.
