Tivo cant use digisender or archive to scart
Problem is Tivo constantly checks HDMI device at other end (usually TV) is compliant and if it isn't it switches off the signal (causing problems for some on their main TV)
When you turn off your TV the Tivo stops outputting a signal - but (and heres the blooper) - it stops outputting to scart as well (scarts dont need to be HDMI compliant so should keep outputting)
Nett result is that when you turn off your TV the scart output stops as well - so not only cant you use your digisender but you cant even archive your recordings to scart
Haven't tested this myself yet - but if its so it's really dumb
You could just keep connecting/disconnecting the HDMI lead if you can reach it

Re: Tivo cant use digisender or archive to scart
This is a bug, but it doesn't happen for everyone. It depends on the TV.
It should be fixed in the next software update. Meanwhile you can unplug the HDMI lead as a workaround.

It surely doesn't matter which TV is switched OFF at the other end, Tivo cannot communicate with it no matter what brand it is - so Scart will be switched off
I would be very interested to hear from anyone who has a TV excluded from this bug

It only happens if the TiVo knows a HDMI device is connected, but the HDCP isn't working. If the TV behaves as though there is no HDMI connection at all, it's fine. Also if the HDCP is still active.

My work around is...
Before i turn the TV off i change it to a channel not used by
the TiVo ie EXT3. Then turn off the TV.
Then all works fine for archiving and watching via a second TV.
I have the Tivo connected to a Philips TV via HDMI (HDMI 1 on TV)
and a Panasonic HDD-DVR via the scart (EXT2 on TV)
I have had to feed the Panasonic DRVR to the TV by scart as the second
HDMI was causing to many problems.

Re: Tivo cant use digisender or archive to scart
Hi,
Please excuse my questioning but I'm rather long in the tooth. I'm glad that I stumbled across this site because I was about to take out a subscription with Virgin to include a Tivo. My problem is that although the main TV is in the lounge (as currently is the PVR) we mostly now watch the TV in the kitchen, this is wall mounted (space is at a premium). I had hoped to use a digisender to enable us to take full advantage of the package, box/recorder in lounge watching mostly on TV in the kitchen. Is this possible without hardwiring? Would it be possible using a V+box?
Regards,

It works fine on Tivo except under certain curcumstances - those being that if Tivo is plugged into main TV via HDMI and main TV is turned off (it also switches off scart) - and even then, as mentioned you can just switch sources on main TV before you switch it off

I assume then that I have a TV excluded from this bug. In the first week I had Tivo in April I archived about 7 hours of recordings overnight with the TV turned off on standby. No issues - played straight through (did a 'play all' with a series) and recorded fine. My TiVo is connected to the TV via HDMI, and I recorded the TiVo through the Scart to the separate Hard Drive.

Re: Tivo cant use digisender or archive to scart
I suspect it isn't a problem with the majority of TVs.
This (11th March) was the first time I saw it reported - a lot of people were using TiVos by then, and there have been few "me too" posts in the thread.

Re: Tivo cant use digisender or archive to scart
Hi,
Thanks for the input, as I said I'm ancient, I can follow instructions but less so the language. Can I infer that I could use a sender with a V+ box without any problem?
From what has been said it also seems that I could also use the current TiVo with some brands/models of TV, am I correct in this inference? If so can anyone advise which models? My prime TV could probably do with replacing, but I would stick to an LCD model 37/42in.

Re: Tivo cant use digisender or archive to scart
You can definitely use a sender with a V+. However, if it's the older Scientific-Atlanta model you won't be able to see the menus if you have an HD output selected.
I can't recommend any particular TVs the TiVo definitely works with, as my Samsung is long since discontinued. But anyway, the bug should be fixed by the next TiVo software update, so even if does affect you, you won't have to put up with it for long.

Re: Tivo cant use digisender or archive to scart
Hi all, and thanks for your info. Can I reiterate I don't necessarily understand technology but I can follow instructions. Currently I have 2 TV sets, 1 PVR and 1 DVD/VCR. These use 1 arial, a splitter directs to 2nd TV and the other output loops to the PVR, DVD and prime TV. The prime TV, PVR and DVD/VCR are connected via scart.
If I used a TiVo that would replace the PVR and DVD, wouldn't it? But it would be nice to retain the ability to play via the PVR and/or DVD/VCR. What I need is to hard wire the prime TV, TiVo, PVR, and DVD/VCR and to use a sender to transmit to the 2nd TV. I would restrict watching existing archived material to the prime TV. Can someone direct me to a diagram showing how to connect the set up?
