Virgin Media Crashes My System

you have probably guessed from the title that

[i] have very very limited pc knowledge and

[ii] am wanting help


have an old boxey desktop pc [ex Aldi]

and its only pc in the house.

have an old ntl email address

use internet explorer

the pc has been working fine and virgin media

has been fine until about x3 days ago.............

the pc is still working fine but as soon as i try

to access my email on virgin media it trys and

it brings up sign in and accepts sign in and then

it brings up the loading statement top left but then

it just freezes up, with not responding on top banner

and sometimes if you leave it alone it eventually sorts

itself out but most times i have to close and switch off


this is first post so if in wrong forum i apologise and mods

please move to correct one.

the pc is only used for email and surfing no gaming etc.

i have switched it off and unplugged the cables as i do

when occasionally the speed seems to have slowed &

that usually puts right any problems but not this time


if anyone has any easy to understand tips to check first

that would be most kind

From that description I'm thinking either a Java issue or more likely spyware ..

but I shall leave it to the forum to suggest ..

Try defragging it and then scan with malwarebytes for starters.

firstly thanks to nopanic and mick for their prompt responses

its greatly appreciated.

after nopanics reply i realised that at the sametime i had started

to get these problems i had gone online banking with my bank &

as part of their application they had asked me to install some

security namely trustee rapport?

anyway after nopanics response i uninstalled the trustee rapport

and bingo im straight into virgin and no freezing up and all works

smoothly again

Glad you sorted it.

If you need another AV, Free Avira seems to work quite well.

I should point out that trusteer rapport is not an anti virus but works at a higher level with selected banking sites. If you havent got an AV then you should install one.

I dont have problems with rapport apart from a tendency of banking sites to insist on it running. when santander took it up I had to re download it as it would recognise it was already there.

Just an extra thought. Are you using the same username and/or password for logging into email etc as you are using for logging into banking as rapport would throw a wobbly at this.
And defininetly not a thing to do.

Hmm yes. If you don't already have one I'd definitely recommend installing some Anti-Virus software.

I personally use NOD32 and MalwareBytes - I'd definitely recommend them.
