Npower fined £2m by Ofgem for mishandling complaints
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-15517948
Quote:
The energy regulator Ofgem has fined Npower £2m for failing to handle complaints properly.
Ofgem said Npower had not recorded complaints properly or given dissatisfied complainers details of the Energy Ombudsman's redress service.

Quote:
Ofgem said it was also investigating the way EDF Energy handles complaints.
The regulator fined British Gas £2.5m in July for the same offence.
|
Seems that Ofgem is getting down to business at last.

Are Eon part of Npower? If not then these also need to take a big look at the practises Eon also get upto.

Re: Npower fined £2m by Ofgem for mishandling complaints
its about time Ofgem bared its teeth with N Power following British Gas in receiving a fine and lets hope that other regulators in other sectors start to show a few more teeth in dealing with companies in these other sectors.

I'm with npower. I haven't had much problem wqith them (I use 'leccy and gas and pay them each month); looks like my bills might go up again if they have £2m extra to find.

I was a customer of there's for 2 years and had never missed a payment, I then changed banks and missed one payment because the bank made an error with the DD. I phoned Npower and made a payment with my card to there customer service.
Then the hell started. I received the first letter approximately 7 days later from there own debt collection company in Tyneside" it had a big red bar across the top and the bottom" and it informed me they intended to pass my details to a collector who would call at my house unless i paid them within 7 days via there phone line.
I phoned them and they said your up to date ignore it. I did what the hell was i thinking.
Then the second letter arrived informing me i had refused to deal with the debt company representative and they intended to issue a request to move my meter to a card meter. I phoned them and they again said sorry it's a mistake ignore it . Then the guy arrived with a new meter intending to change it out. he was told to leave before i put the meter where the sun does not shine side ways. I phoned them paid in full and moved to southern electric via Uswitch 30 minutes later. Even now i get calls from them out of the blue asking me if i have decided to come back to them, A short F OFF works to calm me

Re: Npower fined £2m by Ofgem for mishandling complaints
E-on were the worst with me.
When i moved here the guy who died before had left a bill of around £1500 with them and i informed them i had moved in and give them a meter reading. A week or so passed and they sent me a copy of his bill on my name as a final demand requiring payment. They then tried allways to get extra money out of me from telling me that i hadnt given them meter readings, or that i had used electric when i hadnt it came to a head when they blocked my move to Swalec who i was with before saying i had used around £360 in electric in just 5 weeks and i told them that was impossible and i wasnt paying it and they can just take me to court as it will be laughed out of court. It went on and on for weeks until we finally settled on a figure of just over £240 for 5 months electric. I paid it by Cheque and wrote the account name and number on the back and it went and was cashed. They then sent me a letter as a final demand asking for the payment, i rang them and i threatened them with court preceedings which tipped the table and to this day ive never heard from them again and this was back in early 2007.
One of these people who sell in supermarkets for E-on did ask me the other day and i said "You have to be kidding? Your company is a joke" at which point also a lady who was also talking them changed their mind and walked away and the 2 sellers were not happy at all.

Re: Npower fined £2m by Ofgem for mishandling complaints
I spent 2 years proving their electricity meter readings were wrong, even then they didnt want to refund the money they overcharged me.

Sorry to say that's small change to a company that is Npower too little too late for Ofgem going about it now, where there are other problems to address else where. One main one is the price of oil/gas to common market has gone down to about $100 a barrel but the price is more they charge us, it's not admin costs, nor this so-called "green energy drive" just pure profit in my eyes.
That why I have a multi-fuel boiler does it better & much cheaper than any company is going charge me... hints burn baby burn there's only ash & no waste in my bin bags on collection day..forget the plastics etc its central heating & hot water to me + all free too. Roll on winter do your worst if you can...while writing this in a nice comfy toasty warm room, to the light of the fire flickering in the background
Peace out
