AMD Bulldozer

Im just wondering if anyone has bought one and what one they have.

Reason i ask is ive read that they are not that much better than the Phenom II.

My PC is getting on a bit now, although ive upgraded and changed just about everything in the system over the years the motherboard in my system is getting on a bit now and outdated and will be 5 years old next easter.

Im wondering is it worth getting the Bulldozer or waiting for the Piledriver that AMD are stating is due for release in first quarter of 2012.

Re: AMD Bulldozer

It is not very good at all according to some reviews, it maybe because windows currently isn't optimised for all 8 cores but this is said to be fixed with Windows 8? not 100% sure on that but looking at this site suggests it really is a poor offering from AMD and their top of the range chip is not as good as the Intel i5 2500K, the Bulldozer is very power hungry too.

I will likely upgrade from an AMD 3200 64bit to an intel i5 2500K or hold out for Ivy bridge within 6 months if it isn't too expensive.

Re: AMD Bulldozer

Yeah as said the Bulldozer cpu's are not very good and struggle to beat the Intel 2500K but not only, that there struggling to even beat the AMD Phenom X6 cpu's.

If you need to upgrade now then go for the Intel 2500k.

It really depends on what you plan on using your computer for.

Re: AMD Bulldozer

My 2500K has been great except instant BSoD if you update the display drivers for the integrated graphics, not that I imagine most people use them.

Re: AMD Bulldozer

Also what im finding is atm AM3 boards with the 990 chipsets are very limited in the way of upgrading. they have 1 PCI slot usually and ive seen 1 with 2.
