Re: Bullied Schoolboy Aged 9 Hangs Himself
Because too many schools are busy sorting out the minutia of their anti bullying policies to actually implement them or the one's they have are just not upto scratch. One local school near us has this for a policy first time your hit you should count to ten and walk away, second time you are hit you tell the person they hurt you and walk away only on the third attack can you go to a member of staff and actually tell them. You can all as i did spot the glaring problem there even the thickest bully can work out that they get two free hits a day.
Thankfully many parents have gotten tired of that school (this is not the only loony policy they have) and have withdrawn their kids placing them elsewhere but it shows how stupid it can be. R.I.P kid you are in hopefully a better place.

Some schools never do they deny its there. As if it gets out school got bullying culture parents dont want to have there kids there.
I really feel for this hurts me like hell to think he did not get the help, RIP fella.
I was bullied at my school, the school ignored it. I felt like nobody cared they cared after got kicked in the head beat up. More should be done to stop bullies as it can escelate out of control from just bit mick taking. It can be many levels name calling, stealing things from the person, pushing them to break the law even and to physical abuse. Its done either individuals or by gangs and happens inside or outside the school.
Hate that little gets done, to educate prevent it from early ages.
I hope those who did it reflect change there ways. At this age there too young to be prosecuted think we need to turn them so they dont grow up to be worse.

Re: Bullied Schoolboy Aged 9 Hangs Himself
How does a 9 year old know about suicide and how to hang himself? I'm not trying to be morbid, I'm just very curious as to how someone so young knows this stuff. Has he learned it from the internet, movies, school yard chat etc....
Maybe times are changing but I don't remember knowing about this type of stuff until I was a bit older.

You will find kids who are bullied when they go to teachers are made out to be liars and bullying goes on for ages before it is picked up and dealt with and this can be too late sometimes.
The bullies some how manage to get the teachers on their side and then the victim suffers and doesn't know where to turn to/trust anymore.

Re: Bullied Schoolboy Aged 9 Hangs Himself
I was bullied at school for a long time. It was just little stupid things. This one guy would take my school bag off me and throw it in gardens, on shop roofs or in the middle of the main roads. He would stand in dog dirt then rub it down my trouser leg. He was fairly popular and made sure nobody would walk home with me. To be honst I was only physically attacked a few times, most of it was mental abuse.
When I eventually told my mum she told me next time he tries anything just punch him as hard as I can in the face. The next day he tried to take my coat so I punched him in the mouth. It knocked out one of his teeth and burst his lip. I ran away fairly swiftly but remember hearing him cry. After that he left me alone. I remember all of a sudden kids at school who never spoke to me before become my pals.

Sadly it all comes down to proof. Unless the accusations can be proven, the teachers can do nothing. You'll find most bullies are part of a group, or are often seen as the "cool kid". Other kids who witness the bullying tend to side with the bully. Sad but true.

Re: Bullied Schoolboy Aged 9 Hangs Himself
I'm a teacher and the parent of two now adult children who were bullied at school. As a parent I tried everything and the schools did their best.I can't fault them for their efforts.
I know this because as a teacher I too did my best BUT I don't have eyes in the back of my head and when a child is on their way to and from school I cannot be with them on that journey.
All I know is that when I was bullied as a child I sorted it out the traditional way.I got so angry,in fact I went berserker and beat the **** out of my tormentor and thereafter I was left alone. It's not the liberal way and it's very much frowned upon but it worked for me.
My son endured much until year 10 when he grew up to be over 6ft in height and got a fair bit of bulk. Then he didn't have to do a thing as he towered over those who had been his tormentors.Thankfully he didn't become a bully as he has a very excellent sense of humour and could more than hold his own verbally.
It's a shame that 12 year old didn't realise that one day everything would even out and that when he went out into the world as an adult he wouldn't have to put up with the crap any more.
I do think that bullies have become much more vicious than in my day when nothing much was done about bullying as it was accepted as just being part of school life. However my teachers did have recourse to the cane and
I suspect that as much as anything kept bullies within certain boundaries.
Staff today have very little in their armoury to deal with bullies.Detention just doesn't work, suspension just doesn't work, expulsion just doesn't work. All they have is to talk to parents(who aren't always as helpful as you would want) and put in place tactics and strategies for individual children.
All this and still find the time to teach up to 5/6 classes a day of 30+ students. Back to the eyes in the back of your head situation.

Good on him.
I developed a self deprecating sense of humour which seemed to confuse bullies and endear me to others. It's difficult for people to pick faults when you've already aired them in a witty manor. It also made them look foolish when they couldn't out fox your own dire tongue-in-cheek review.

Boy 9 found hanged
Boy, 9, found hanged 'was bullied for being white'
A boy of nine who was found hanged is believed to have killed himself after he was ‘bullied for being white’ by an Asian gang at school.
Aaron Dugmore – thought to be one of the youngest children in the UK to commit suicide – was discovered in his bedroom after being tormented for months, his parents said.
They said Aaron was threatened with a plastic knife by one Asian pupil, who warned him: ‘Next time it will be a real one.’
He was also allegedly told by another pupil that ‘all the white people should be dead’ and he was forced to hide from the bullies in the playground at lunchtime.
Aaron’s mother, Kelly-Marie Dugmore, 30, and stepfather Paul Jones, 43, said that despite complaints to the school, nothing was done to stop the bullying.
Aaron had recently started in Year Five at Erdington Hall Primary School in Birmingham, a school where 75 per cent of pupils come from ethnic minority backgrounds.
According to staff at the school he had already ‘settled in quickly’ with his classmates after he joined the school last September when his family moved nearby.
The school, which caters for 450 pupils aged three to 11, received an ‘inadequate’ rating by Ofsted inspectors last year.
Aaron was discovered by Miss Dugmore hanged in his bedroom at the family home in the Erdington district of Birmingham at about 6pm on February 11.
He was taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital where doctors desperately attempted to revive him but he died the following day from a suspected cardiac arrest.

His mother said she was convinced the taunts led to her son killing himself.
‘Aaron got on with all the children at his last school, and for him to have been bullied because of the colour of his skin makes me feel sick to my stomach,’ she said.
Mr Jones said that from Aaron’s first day of joining the school he had noticed a change in him.
‘He became argumentative with his brothers and sisters, which wasn’t like him at all,’ he added.
‘Eventually he told us that he was being bullied by a group of Asian children at school and had to hide from them in the playground at lunchtime.’
His mother claimed she went to see the head teacher of the school several times only to be told: ‘You didn’t have to come to this school, you chose to come here.’
A neighbour of the boy’s grandmother earlier told how ‘he had been targeted by a gang of older bullies at the school’.
She said: ‘They made fun of him because he was the new kid but no one really thought it was any more than playground stuff.’
An inquest was opened at Birmingham Coroner’s Court last week but was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
Detective Inspector David Wallbank, of West Midlands Police, confirmed that the force was investigating allegations that Aaron was being bullied in the run-up to his death.

re: [MERGED] Boy 9 found hanged
Horrific! RIP to the little lad and condolences to his loved ones.
It'll be interesting to see how much effort is put into getting to the bottom of this and what the motives were. I must say that, if true, the head teacher's remarks seem appallingly insensitive. Does someone like that belong in teaching, let alone at this level?
