Speedtest.net App issue

I need some advice to resolve this issue.
Using a laptop running win 7/64, checking my VM B/B via a Netgear router, I get the following bizzare reults -

via the ethernet port - 5.08 Mbps(down) >> 0.49Mbps(up)
via wireless (802g) - 8.98Mbps >> 0.50Mbps
(results averaged over 10 consecutive tests)

via ethernet port, confirms the speed of my VM service
via wi-fi appears to be nearly 2x the ethernet speed.
I have checked the cache is cleared after each test

Checking with another speed test app (Dan Elwell) shows good correlation with ethernet results

Any suggestions as to what is going on?
