Record to DVD in widescreen

Had the box installed last Saturday (abysmally but I have got it sorted!) the only problem I have is that when copying to DVD the programme displays in 4.3 not widescreen (recorded an HD programme and the resultant copy in SD is excellent - sound and vision but just the wrong format).

I have checked the DVD recorder and this is set to widescreen so there must be a setting on the HD+ box that I'm missing?

Any help much appreciated.

I guess you use HDMI for your TV? Try temporarily setting the V+ output to SCART, make sure it is set to widescreen, then put it back to HDMI.

Re: Record to DVD in widescreen

Thanks for that I'll give a go although the main problem I had with the install is that they originally connected it up as "Component" and failed to connect the HDMI cable.

Will let you know how it goes tomorrow!

Re: Record to DVD in widescreen

This may be nothing to do with it at all, but I have a fairly old Panasonic HDD/DVD recorder, and when copying to DVD, it records in 4:3 (it tells you this in the manual).

when you play it back on the TV, you have to make sure your TV is set to widescreen. Basically when recording to DVD, it's just not recording the widescreen flag that automatically makes your TV switch to widescreen so you have to set the TV to widescreen manually.

Re: Record to DVD in widescreen

Definitely not that as the DVD manual tells you to to select 4.3, 4.3 letterbox or 16.9 widescreen for recording/playback,

Re: Record to DVD in widescreen

On my Panasonic recorder the manual tells me that if you record on +R discs or -R using a long play recording mode, it records as 4:3 format. To get 16:9 I have to use DVD-R (not in long/flexible mode) or DVD RAM. I've not tried DVD +R recently but certainly get widescreen format on DVD -R.

Re: Record to DVD in widescreen

Never had a problem with my Panasonic HDD/DVD recorder. Only DVD-RAM's pick up signal that automatically puts the TV in widescreen. With DVD-R's the 16:9 picture is there, but you have to select 16:9 on the TV to see it all. Also the HDD has a high-speed 'copy to DVD' mode that, if selected automatically converts everything to 4:3.

Re: Record to DVD in widescreen

Still no joy but I can live with it.

Unfortunately I seem to have other problems which I'm not sure I can live with so my well use the 28 day cancellation condition and return to Sky with tail between my legs! Virgin offered a significant saving but am learning you get what you pay for the hard way!
