Random V+ rebooting...
Hi,
Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere (there seem to be quite a few V+ problem threads), but my SA V+ has taken to randomly rebooting itself.
I say random, it seems to be (but not always) when I am recording a programme and watching another (usually in HD). At some point it usually reboots half way through, ruining my viewing pleasure and the recording I was making.
I have also had it reboot randomly when not recording; I went to it yesterday, and when I tried to switch it from standby I was wondering why my TV was saying no signal - then noticed the box said boot.
Roll on March/April when the Tivo is available (when I see the devil buying skates I will know Tivo is close).
One good thing I will say abut the V+: When it reboots it does at least continue recording - although it has missed a few minutes .

Re: Random V+ rebotting...
Yep, my SA V+ reboots every day now, also getting the problem where you have to "re-pair" the remote and box together at least twice a day. It's a real pain but was holding out for a TiVo install to fix the problem, looks like it might be a while for that now.

Re: Random V+ rebotting...
I suggest [the two of] you report a faulty unit and ask for an engineer visit. This was just what was happening with my SA many moons ago when it was replaced with a Samsung that very seldom lets us down.

Re: Random V+ rebotting...
Recently replaced an SA box - it started with the random reboots, then it gave a couple of funny errors and 'lost' recordings which were later re-found, then it started pixellating recordings. I reformatted the hard drive 2 or 3 times, but it was just dying (this was over a period of a couple of months or so)
Got a box swap - actually wanted an SA replacement but he only had Samsung, now I'm glad to have the Samsung - will keep that it/when TiVo comes and let them have my other SA back. If you're going to be keeping a V+ when you get TiVo I'd get a box swap now if it's playing you up rather than waiting for TiVo as we still have no definite clue when that's happening.

Re: Random V+ rebotting...
I might just do that. I have some time off due soon so that would be a good time to arrange a visit.
I know you can't choose a new V+ - but what is the Samsung like? Is it faster that the SA - changing channels I can live with, but actually seeing it try to draw the black box, and grey border, then add the text when you press i - in a longer time that it takes to type this - is painful.

I had loads of trouble with my SA V+ , got it replaced for a Samsung V+ and would never go back , incidentally my SA V+ box had the same issue as yours.

A little bit of dust (only a little); There is a PS3 case on top of my DVD player, a DVD box on top of a speaker, a Sky+ box standing unused to one side, but the V+ is on it's own shelf humming away to itself.

A familiar story. I don't think the SA's can really cope with live HD when recording two programs.

Slightly smaller both in length and height. No vents in the top - sides only where the SA has vents on the top and sides. Lights a darker blue so not so bright and definitely quieter. Faster changing between channels and seems quicker on menus as well.
The tech for my area said it's rare he carries any SA boxes anymore unless specifically requested so I suspect they may be slowly going out of circulation and hopefully you'd get a Samsung. As I said, I like what I know so I'd hoped for an SA, but am now glad I got the Samsung. It's just neater where I want it.
The one hiccup it has is it doesn't properly update the 'hours available' when recording HD - so be aware you may have more or less recording time than it shows. It usually updates itself correctly when deleting an SD recording. This is apparently a known issue and due for an update 'soon'.

Re: Random V+ rebooting...
An engineer is coming out tomorrow to have a look at my box (not like that).
Every day since I arranged this (yesterday and today) I have had an automated call from VM confirming the visit and asking me to press 1 to confirm I still want it
Is this a new thing, as I have never had this before?

Re: Random V+ rebooting...
I can live with that; I only crawl out of bed at 6:00am when I am at work, much later when I am not at work, and I never have anything recording that early.
