Got a 900watt psu with missing 4pin 12V?
I've just found out that the motherboard I have wont work 100% without the 4 pin 12v adaptor attached to it.
I got a 900watt psu has a million cables with it and not the 4 pin adaptor which I just assumed when I bought it that it would come with one as I was under the assumption all boards use them as well as the main power lead.
It boots up ok but the monitor wont come on, 6 pin adaptors connected to GFX card ok, so I dragged over my old psu with 12v 4 pin adaptor and it booted up ok with that. only I need this psu as its powering 7 fans and a huge case I just bought.
If I pop down to my local maplins and pick up an 4 pin adaptor would that work ok? or would I need to send the psu back Ebuyer and get one with a 4 pin 12v attached to it?

Does it have an 8 pin 12v on it? if it does you should be able to seperate the connector into 2 4 pin ones and use one of them.

You can also get one of these
http://linitx.com/viewproduct.php?prodid=11473
The 4pin is just another 12v feed to the CPU so the 20/24 pin feed isn't overloaded

Do you have a modern motherboard, Most new boards take a 24 pin (EATXPWR) power cable with a 12v 8 pin (EATX12V) cable.

I do not think you will find its most boards using 8 pin
Looking at a few new mobos a lot of the H67 boards still use 4pin whilst most of the P67 are using 8 and thats the newest socket

Could be socket 775 boards which mine is, but thats not to say all as probably each board seems to have different specs, nothing seems standard when coming to certain fittings like power cable which would make life a little easier when upgrading.

Re: Got a 900watt psu with missing 4pin 12V?
Thanks for the info, its actually a gigabyte board ma770-ud3 version 1 AM2/AM3 ready.
As it happens the 8 pin connecter actually split into 2 4+4 I've built pc's before like this and it never crossed my mind lol doh!!!!
However I've come across a major problem and i'll post in another thread.
