What type of Telephone adapter is this?

Found this double telephone adapter in my draw and can't think what I bought it for?

Those two caps at the bottom lift up showing two clear plastic legs that have 2 wires in each (White/Blue and Blue/White), when they are prised up there are 2 staggered IDC pins that those wires go in shorting them together.

What's the difference between this and a normal double adapter?

Yeah - I'd go with that idea - it saves messing about with actually crimping wires / punching down wires - all you do with those is poke the wires in and snap the little cover closed.

Re: What type of Telephone adapter is this?

Here's another pic with the caps open:

Looking at the left leg you can clearly see where the wires slot in and the pins that they will clip into.

Looks like it's for an extension as you both say as pins 2 + 5 are for speech/ringing and they are both blue/white and white/blue as shown on the plastic legs.So it appears to be a double adpater with the ability to run 2 extension sockets from it as well, neat!!

Thanks for the info guys!

Yeah - self-punchdown - cool - never seen one of that type before. Thanks for posting the internal photo! A lazy-mans DIY telephone extension!

Re: What type of Telephone adapter is this?

It says they're used by Sky engineers on the eBay auction, thinking about it, I had a similar connector only allowing one output but much smaller

Re: What type of Telephone adapter is this?

We did have SKY installed around November but I can't remember him using or leaving that adapter though, he might well have and I just didn't notice.

I do know it didn't come with my SKY Broadband pack as I've chucked that in a corner un-opened as I know the ADSL speed round here is less than my 10meg when traffic shaped

Re: What type of Telephone adapter is this?

That's probably why I don't remember buying it, must have picked it up after the installer went and put in a drawer and forgot about it.

So you can wire two extension sockets off it using the built in IDC crimper then and use it to share your phone/SKY box all at the same time?
