Camcorder to Ubuntu PC with tv card

Treated myself to a real bargain: http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/camcorder/sa...-m-50/1019302/
Only, I got mine from Cash Generator for a tenner. (and I'm impressed with the quality!)

I know I need a cable (or cables) to connect the camcorder to the pc - what cables/set up would anyone care to advise on for capturing video/audio?
I do have a branch of Maplin nearby and a birthday comin' up

As far as I can tell the only 'video out' option available on that camcorder is minijack to phono - the lead should have been provided with the camera. It is possible to get a scart adapter - but the intention is to display the camera output on a TV - to use with a computer you would need a capture card fitted in the PC.

dunno if this link helps?

Re: Camcorder to Ubuntu PC with tv card

I could run it to a VHS video recorder or see if I've still got a tape converter (put a mini-cassette in and a vhs player should take it) and digitise it from that (have got the necessary for doing that somewhere and the cables someplace for getting video to computer via the tv card) it's just been a while since I attempted it.

The ubuntu pc is the only computer around here though with a tv card in it...

If you have a TV card with the necessary linux drivers installed in the pc, then you shouldn't have a problem going straight from the camera to the TV card input - as far as I can tell the output from the camera is via 3.5mm minijack to video & mono RCA phono plugs - provided you have the necessary cable & the TV card has phono inputs you should be ok..

(haven't found the tape converter I know I've got somewhere - haven't ruled out finding it before the weeks out either!)
