V+ Remote Control

I just had my Samsung V+ installed today. All good, except the remote. I got the long one, which is rather cumbersome to use and hold. I tried phoning VM to get the smaller remote, but they said the long one is now standard issue since April. Does anyone know where I can find the smaller one?

Thanks.

Re: V+ Remote Control

Which remote do you have from this help page? http://help.virginmedia.com/system/s...RTICLE_ID=3704

For the HD boxes it should be either 9, 10 or 11. They are all the current remotes being issued at the moment until the old stock runs out then it will all be Type 11)

Although the site itself doesn't seem to be working at the moment so try this Google Cache page http://webcache.googleusercontent.co...ient=firefox-a

Re: V+ Remote Control

EDIT: The only way you can get the newest remote is to wait till later this year (once the stock of the older ones have all run out) and buy it

Re: V+ Remote Control

Personally I would rather have number 8 as the buttons are more logically placed and easier to hand unlike the coloured buttons on the latest version which are at the top.

Re: V+ Remote Control

I went to a VM store yesterday and they gave me number 8 for free. VERY pleased.

Problem solved.

Question Re: V+ Remote Control

Just curious. What is the difference between all these controls?

I have no. 8 which is an improvement on the awkward-to-hold pointy ones, but I'm interested to know whether the latest no. 12 is an improvement.

Re: V+ Remote Control

I used to have an 8 but now have a 12. The 8 somehow seems more logical to me. The 12 feels cheap, sorry, but it does. The coloured buttons on the 8 were a real usability point. the blue home button, red V+ button made it easy to operate without really thinking.

I know these have TV codes programmed and that works great with my Sharp Aquos TV in but I can't help feeling the lack of a learn function is really poor. I had an old all for one type Medion £10 remote from Aldi that had a remote learn function

I am sure I am not the only one who has the TV sound Muted and the TV locked on to one HDMI port using an AV Amp as the heart of a system. I would love to have the volume control on the V+ operate the surround sound receiver volume. None of the Yamaha TV codes seem to work for me I'm Afraid.

The Yamaha remote will do basic channel changes and power on the V+ but as it has no coloured buttons does not work with the V+ functionality, EPG, Recording, VOD etc. So getting the VM remote to do the volume seems the right way round to me, maybe the TiVO remote is better?

Re: V+ Remote Control

This is all too techie for me but at least I know I'm not being short changed with my remote.

We've just had our V+ box changed, it's cosmetically different but other than that I haven't noticed any differences, so don't know the reason for the change. Maybe they just come from different manufacturers.

I do hate having to use three remotes for TV settings, VM and the blu-ray system. I can never work out which volume control to use.

Re: V+ Remote Control

The usability design error, and yes it is an error, with the latest remotes is to have the buttons and background the same colour. Colour coding buttons helps them stand out so that you select them more reliably whilst colouring can also differentiate functions, the old one had a blue home button and re V+ button, both dead easy to spot.

Sorry but this is simply poor design.

Re: V+ Remote Control

Is it usual practice to provide a new remote when changing the V+ box? I'm obviously better off keeping the old one. I didn't like the original pointy style ones. They were really difficult to hold on to. Goodness knows what the reason was for that design.

Re: V+ Remote Control

As long as you've got a compatible remote for the V+ then they I wouldn't expect them to change it.
