Looks like they are packetshaping BBC iPlayer too.

First minute was great, coming in at the full speed, after which it ramped down to a really atrocious crawl, taking 6hrs to download the rest of the program.

Program was Spooks - Series 9 Episode 8.
Time of start of download: 2am.
Time of end of download: Just after 8am. (exaggeration, real finish time was 3:18am)
Protocol: Flash streaming (rtmp).

Average speed was 186.55kb/s

Web browsing unaffected @ 3am. Speedtest.net reports 19.9mb also at 3am. Only the RTMP stream was affected.

The same RTMP stream on a 3G dongle on my laptop, same program, same time, (as a comparison) took a mere 8 minutes, ruling out problems at the BBC end.

I really don't find the shaping of BBC iPlayer to be acceptable (not you guys problem though)

iplayer and youtube are affected yes, I confirmed this myself when I noticed the streaming issues I have stop after midnight even tho jitter stays high and speeds go down.
As ignition would say its a 'balls up'.

It is not really a 'balls up' from what I read here. It seems that VM are cutting the speed to everything except protocols they mark as OK. This means that they will catch much more traffic than they claim will be slowed, by design. If enough people complain (ie. WOW) then they will tweak it for just that item. The result will be a lot of less used traffic will be knackered and likely never fixed as demand will be low. BBCi should get allowed through though, but it seems it is not strictly an error.

So this on the traffic management page is a load of cobblers then?

"This policy does not impact any applications other than Peer to Peer and Newsgroups, so things like watching iPlayer, online gaming, making calls via Skype, downloading music tracks from iTunes or streaming them from Spotify and sending an email or normal browsing are unaffected."

You would be correct if the complaints on here and the other forums are anything to go by.

I have given up trying to play Call of duty Blacks Ops tonight due to the packet loss and ping spikes. Good advert for VM when they bugger up the release day of what could be the biggest game this year.

I'm noticing the much slower downloads via the HTTP protocol to, especially when trying to download game patches, or other downloads.

Except we have our own uk based dedicated box for BF2 and MOH and also another dedicated box for black ops both show the same symptoms between 5 and Midnight for me.

This has only been happening in the last few weeks for the bf2 and moh and since last night for the COD black ops. It just seem very coincidental that shaping is turned on and we now have this problem on our servers if you connect via VM. Those on other connections don't exhibit this problem. ?????

That would be a no from my experience of both SSL and IPSec VPNs.

Browseing the web in the evening seems slower, and Youtube is stopping to load sometimes. Even thought speedtest say I get the full 50mb.

Web browsing is slower, itunes times out, its a joke after 5pm. Has never been like this in the past 6yrs ive had a connection here until this traffic shaping has been applied at 5pm.
