USB to digital camera not working

Up to now, the USB lead connecting from Lumix digital camera to Macbook
worked fine - thereby transferring photos to laptop.

Now, when I plug in the USB lead I get the following message -

USB drawing too much power from computer....
USB device has been disabled to prevent damaging computer....

What is happening? - help please.
Do I need to buy a new lead, it is about a year old.

Re: USB to digital camera not working

to the forum. TBH. it doesn't sound like the lead.

Are you running OSX on the Mac, or Windows?

Also, can you try the camera on another computer?

Re: USB to digital camera not working

It won't be the lead, either somethings gone wrong with the USB chipset, with the camera or you've added some more USB devices..

If the later then just buy a powered USB hub and that will cure the inherent power limitations of the USB ports

Re: USB to digital camera not working

Maybe a fault on the camera then.. Your USB was complaining about too much power being drawn which says to me there's a short somewhere, you can try another USB lead (it'll probably be a USB to usb-mini which is common for camera's/phones/mp3 players) but I doubt of the lead could develop a short unless it's been seriously stretched or mashed

Re: USB to digital camera not working

amazingly, today I went to Jessops in London and a helpful girl tried a lead from another camera and hey presto it works - so it was the USB lead.
Of course they didn't sell just the leads, but a camera outlet in Tottenham Court Road did.
Thankyou everyone for your helpful advice.
