Dinner lady giving biscuit to boy seen as Grooming.
Quote:
A County Fermanagh school has been criticised after warning a dinner lady who gave a child a biscuit that she could be seen to be 'grooming' the boy.
It happened at St Mary's Primary in Brookeborough in January 2008.
Chair of the Stormont Education committee Mervyn Storey described it as "political correctness gone too far".

Being a Teacher I would like to hear whet Maggie has to say about this (That is if she wishes to)

hmm..it is the world we live in
I wouldn't chat in an overly friendly manner at work..in case it is misconstrued
Sigh..bring back the old days..when you could chat a girl up..and all you risked was a slap in the face.
Where you could (as a child) offer a fellow child a lick of your lolly..and all you risked was the greedy bugger not giving it back
Where you could play with your marbles..and not be asked to take your hands out of your pockets while doing it

If the story can't get any more stupid...

So if an teacher who is an aunt, hugs her nephew, then in the eyes of the authorities she's a paedophile?
And people wonder why there is a dangerous shortage of men in primary school education?

To be honest words just freaking fail me.
Not that I couldn't express myself but forum rules dictate that I don't let you have both barrels.Just imagine a paragraph of expletives allied with a Victor Meldrew turn of expression and you might just hit the mark.
Suffice to say that teachers can at times be just as stupid and unthinking as the rest of the population.

Well since they've made primary education a virtual no go area for men, maybe the next target for all their paranoia is middle aged women.

With all due respect Primary education has never been a draw for male teachers.Indeed the teaching profession overall is rather more peopled by women than men because of the imbalance in Infants and Juniors..Only in Secondary education does the mix become more even but it was not because of the implication of pedophilia that this imbalance occurred(well not until recently). It's a shame because men tend to get more chance of advancement in primary education and they are more sought after.
The sad thing is a child can go through the first 7 years of schooling and get no male input at all and it's not until secondary school that they get the male input. This might not seem a big issue but in the case of single parent families(mothers) a male teacher can be a good role model to disaffected male students.

True, it's never been a major draw for males but the reason for that wasn't the terrible suspicion with which they are now treated when it comes to dealing with children in general.

Its so stupid, when i was in the last year of school the music teacher, myself and my dad were close friends and he used to give me a lift home because i was bullied. Now he wouldnt legally be allowd to do this at all. this was only back in 1998.
