Re: 1tb media player recommendations
I'm after something like that, but I want wifi built in, so I can watch it on TV, or stream to a PC, plus use the HDD for other storage.

Re: 1tb media player recommendations
I have the version of this
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digi...dp_ob_title_ce
without the network connection.
I'm currently using it with a 500GB USB 2.0 portable drive (i.e. powered by the USB port), but it also works brilliantly with USB sticks.
I think it is more versatile having separate storage & media player, as when one external drive gets full, you just use another - and it is easy for other people to bring their own media for showing on the telly, just on a stick or portable drive.

thanks for that am investigating further
can the fan be heard if the tv or other source of noise is switched off? i.e. is it reasonably quiet?

There is no fan at all, as far as I can tell, I've certainly never noticed any noise from it.

Re: 1tb media player recommendations
Just wanted to add that I also use a WDTV Live with a USB hard-drive, and it is an excellent piece of kit. You can also copy all your media files from your main PC to the WDTV Live's hard-drive, using its interface (this is what I do). Or you can always stream video from your main PC to the WDTV Live, if you don't want to take the time to copy files to the USB Hard-drive.
It's also compatible with some USB Wireless-N adapters. I use a Linksys adapter ( this one) to connect the WDTV Live to my wireless network. I've had no problems streaming 720P video (mkv's) to it from my PC, or copying videos to it over wireless.
