Rutland Telecom

Afternoon all,

Quote:
A UK village which raised £37,000 to offer 200 homes the super-fast broadband that BT could not deliver has launched its network.

Rutland Telecom will offer the residents of Lyddington speeds of up to 40Mbps (megabits per second).
BBC News

Rutland Telecom

Quote:
We offer broadband services using ADSL2+, VDSL, SDSL, wireless and fibre-optics. We have implemented an IP-based network for voice & data in Rutland, previously a technologically-isolated rural community suffering from poor broadband speeds. We have invested in a gigabit network infrastructure which will satisfy Rutland's future demands for bandwidth such as BBC I-player and SKy HD. We offer the fastest upload and download speeds in the County and our bonded ADSL2+ residential service is the fastest in the UK.
Can somebody explain how you get Sky HD over fibre?? Don't you need a satelite dish for that??

BTW,

Chris - I know you've mentioned Rutland in another thread today, but I thought it deservered it's own and did'nt want to hijack the discussion on the other thread!

Re: Rutland Telecom

Ignoring that obviously poor bit of text that's been quoted, good on them. Having said that, tbh, I don't think it'd cost £37k to roll out what they've done wirelessly...

But the residents have since been given a £50,000 estimate by another firm, Rutland Telecom, and they hope to be online by October.
