Will 50mb speed improve my wireless connection?

I am currently on 20mb (speeds still erratic after engineer visit)

I connect via N Wireless USB in my office down the hall from the lounge where all VM boxes and connections are, I get a ONE BAR connection which is slow and keeps dropping, have their 3 different adaptors all the same result

if I went to 50mb which needs a different modem will this improve my wireless signal

For the same cost I could add a BT line with phone and broadband but that only offers 2mb at best (they say I should get 3.6) at least it would be rock solid 100%,

Hardwiring the router to my PC seems impractical as the wireless signal may have the same problem in the opposit direction

Ideas?

Neither the package you are on nor your ISP will change or improve your wireless signal.

There are so many different things which could effect the signal.

A simple channel change in the router could improve matters

You will most likely be better posting this in networking to get the best help.

Yes should be in Networking.

That said - use http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider to check the RF environment and find the clearest channel.

If WiFi still won't perform well enough have a read up on HomePlug technology - 85Mbps units would just cover you on 20Mbps BB but 200Mbps units would give you some headroom should you later upgrade to 50Mbps.

The best solution would be a straightforward wired connection.

Re: Will 50mb speed improve my wireless connection?

A different modem wont make a difference to you rwireless signal, a different wireless touter might. Kwikbreaks advice is sound, I would also chaneg the wireless channel o your router as there may be interference from other local wireless equipment on that channel.

If all else fails then wireless repeaters/bridges if your desperate to keep wireless or Homeplug is a great option. Zyxel do a 200Mbps homeplug unit which is around £50 for 2 adapters.
