Second hand V+ boxes
Hi All,
Im thinking about buying a second hand V+ box (purely because I cant afford the £64 VM are asking) I'm not interested in using HD, nor do I have an HD TV. However, I would like to use the "V+" function, so that I can record programmes, palse live TV etc in standard quality. If I were to buy such a box, would it be as simple as sloting my Virgin card into it to use it for this purpose? since Im not actually trying to use any extra channels i.e HD channels, I already have the XL TV package, just not HD.
Cheers,

Re: Second hand V+ boxes
But... the box isn't theirs to sell i.e. they're all rented from VM afaik - nobody owns their box like you do a Sky box. So it must be hookey, or at least 'grey'.
Sounds iffy to me.

Re: Second hand V+ boxes
You cannot buy a second hand v+ box and use it on the network. Virgin need to supply one for you.
'Hooky' and 'Grey' boxes are used to steal services - which we do not allow discussion of on here.

Thanks for your reply. However, I'm not trying to nor interested in "stealing" anything. I only want to record the channnels/ services etc that I subscribe to, nothing more, nothing less, no stealing of any sort!

No where did I say you were. I only answered the question you asked. You asked what the meanings were and I told you, I did not say you were stealing anything.

You have indeed answered the question, and appologies for my shortness. Your reply wasn't entirly the answer I was expecting, since my intensions were harmless, not knowing that much about the boxes, your tone came accross this end that you thought my motive was more sinister, as you finished the sentence "which we do not allow discussion of on here." suggesting that I did something wrong, in this case stealing.
There are a number of people who have finshed their contracts with VM who no longer want the boxes and in some cases VM have told them that they dont want it back either, thus selling them, rather than putting them in the bin.

Re: Second hand V+ boxes
Virgin require all V+HD boxes back - no one should be selling them or putting them in the bin
It is only some of the oldest 'normal' STBs that Virgin at times say they don't require to be returned

The Vbox will not work unless you have it ordered and installed by Virginmedia as we need to have the box listed on your account with a paired card that only we can set up for you.
If you buy a second box you are actually receiving stolen property that will not work, so you will have just bought an expensive doorstop.
Do not believe what the seller tells you about it working and being able to record programmes as it is all lies.
Also we are in the middle of a card upgrade which will prevent virtually every single illegal box from working.
The cost you have been quoted is quite good for a box that lets you record 2 TV shows while allowing you to view a third.
I am a member of Virginmedia staff just check my signature and forget about your alleged bargain and get one legitimately if you really require one.

That is an interesting choice of words.

Re: Second hand V+ boxes
Thanks to you all. It appears to be a much more complex issue than I was expecting. However, all my questions have now been answered, and I'm wiser for it, and on that note, I'm calling it a night..... I need my beauty sleep more than a V+ box

It is not a good idea to get a box from anyone other than Virginmedia as they tend to turn into doorstops as above, and you will probably not get your money back either.
