PC not booting
Hi all
when booting my pc it pauses at the 'Initialising USB Controllers" never done this before.
Then it finds all my SATA drives and says:-
Auto Detecting USB Mass Storage
Device 01
And then it goes nowhere, is it the motherboard that has given up the goat?
Also can't press Delete key to get into bios, or f8 key to go into safe mode.
it is an Asus MSA7-CM
It was only put in last September so it is still under warranty.
What has been happening for a few weeks now, sometimes after booting to the desktop the mouse is frozen, if I pull the mouse from the USB slot and push it back in it will then work, it happens every fortnight or so.
Thanks for any responses.

Re: PC not booting
I have a WD Mybook external drive but I did disconnect that, and only had the mouse and keyboard in usb slots, I took out my card reader and printer. As I said I can't get into the bios by hitting the Delete key that is what made me think it is the MB

Re: PC not booting
Strange.
I unplugged every USB inc. keyboard and mouse and it booted straight through to option screen to start Windows normally.
Plugged mouse and keyboard in, booted and it went straight to desktop.
Will have to add the other usb one at a time now and see what happens.
I did do a Windows 7 update today, doubt that had anything to do with it.

Re: PC not booting
Still have to plug printer, usb switch box, Mybook drive and card reader, they will have to wait till the morning.
I have an image backup I did Sunday morning that I can restore if need be, fingers crossed.

Printer has a card reader but the printer is not powered up when I don't need it.
The card reader is one I got from SVP a few weeks ago, suppose it could have been that, it was only a cheap one.

Re: PC not booting
Well, connected my Epson RX500 printer this morning and the pc would not boot again, diconnected it and pc booted.
I uninstalled the printer and took the lead out of the usb port, then switched printer on and put lead back into usb port, all I got was errors while win 7 tried to install it, then got the message "Failed to install Device", shucks.
Then I looked at the printer panel and it was not switched on, idiot me.
switched the printer on and then it did auto install.
So, the printer was switched on all the time, never had it not booting before because the printer had been left switched on.
Thanks to all that have suggested things for me to try, hopefully it will be ok now.

Re: PC not booting
Yeah, I have left the printer on before and it ws ok, apparently there is a 3 year warrany on this Asus board I was told when I registered it online so got over 2 years to see what happens.
I only have to plug my card reader in now, everything else is plugged in including a usb catpure device. At present, till I sort things out properly, I have a usb switch box which connects a Epson R285 between my windows pc and my iMac, I know it is not the proper way to do it but it will get sorted.
I have just thought of something, all this started after I had done a screen capture using the SHIFT/PRT SCR, after doing that I opened Fireworks to edit the image, but it would not start, tried again but it would not start, tried other apps and they would not open, Task manager opened but nothing after, I had to do a reset to get thngs working, that is when the pc would not boot. I have a funny feeling I pressed CTRL/PRT SCR, doubt that would cause it though.
