Plane crash in Libya
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/8676758.stm
Quote:
A passenger plane has crashed at Tripoli airport, killing more than 100 people on board, Libyan officials say.
The Afriqiyah Airways flight from Johannesburg had been due to land at 0400 GMT. The plane crashed as it attempted to land, the airline said.
Officials say 93 passengers and 11 crew were on board the Airbus 330. They are said to be of various nationalities, including British and South African.
The plane had been due to go on from Tripoli to London's Gatwick airport.

Re: Plane crash in Libya
This is terrible news. My thoughts go out to the families of those involved.
There is rumour that 2 children have been found alive but this has not yet been 100% confirmed as yet.

Re: Plane crash in Libya
They've ammended the above headline in that the planes final destination was Tripoli and that there was a connecting flight to the UK, passengers were though booked for many other european destinations..
I've not heard the rumour of any survivors yet, but children tend to survive better due to being more relaxed and also the seat is a complete shell around them unlike an adult.. Hear's hoping the rumours are true

Further update denoting ONE child survivor
Quote:
Several dozen Dutch nationals were among the 93 passengers, Dutch officials say. A Dutch boy was the sole known survivor, the Libyans say.
British and South African passengers are also thought to have been on board. The 11 crew were said to be Libyan.
Libyan Transport Minister Mohamed Zidan said the Dutch boy child was being treated for minor injuries.

Re: Plane crash in Libya
Dutch newspapers report 103 casualties, 61 of them Dutch. The only survivor is said to be a 10 year old Dutch child.

Re: Plane crash in Libya
My nephew is a pilot for the same airline.
Luckily we heard from him before we had seen the news.
He had worked with the pilot of the crashed plane though and probably knew the crew.
My thoughts go out to all those affected by this disaster.
