Slow e-mail

Can anyone explain why it now takes up to 7 hours for e-mail to arrive in my inbox now?
Even if I send them between my own accounts it is taking between 3 - 5 hours.
My mate sent me one @ 10pm last night and it arrived in my inbox @ 5am this morning.
This is a joke, is it google or virgin at fault.
Any ideas?

That'll be the new improved email service we all asked for (didn't we?). Much better isn't it?

Of course, I have no proof to back up that statement - just a hunch.

I just sent a test email from my live.co.uk account to my migrated ntlworld account and it arrived in less than a couple of seconds from hitting the send button.
