LCD / TFT Wall Bracket

Hi all,

Need to mount a 19" TFT in the bedroom....yeah yeah fnarrr fnarrr!!

Anyway, anybody know of any good places where I can get a semi-decent wall mount (tilt / swivel).

I've found some on the web and some fairly cheap - some worryingly cheap - possible dubious quality.

I'll be mounting it to a plasterboard / drywall wall using the correct fixings and going into the metal / wood whatever I find behind to fix it to. Also - if anybody can recommend and fixings that would be good - at the moment I'm planning to use these.

Re: LCD / TFT Wall Bracket

I seem to remember when I fitted my bracket to the wall, the fittings came with it but it was a 32" to 50" and it is screwed into plaster/brieze block with monster screws.
Those fitting look ok but one thing I do with butterfly screws is put some plaster on the legs. This is because once you unscrew them they fall down the inside of the wall and you have to fit a new one.The wet plaster SOMETIMES holds the wings in place and sticks it to the wall....does that make sense?

Re: LCD / TFT Wall Bracket

Nothing to be lost by going straight through to the outside wall with good galvanted bolts from B&Q and either a plate of damn good washers.

Re: LCD / TFT Wall Bracket

those fixings are not suitable for what you what you want ,you will need to drill through the plaster board into the brick or breeze block ,if you don't the weight of the tv will just pull through the plaster board even a small one

these are more suitable and will work in either substrate you will also need one of these this will give you the depth you need

Next door tried plasterboard anchors...TV fell of the wall... then they tried drilling deeper only to find lightweight thermal blocks behind which nothing seems to be able to get a grip in.

if it is thermal block behind the plasterboard the fixings i recommended in the above post will screw directly into the block WITHOUT using the sleeve with a half decent cordless screw driver just pilot drill the plasterboard ,if you want you can drill a 4mm hole to guide the screw

Re: LCD / TFT Wall Bracket

They tried parallel screws with deep threads, but this thermal block is so soft that it crumbled immediately. I suggested injecting some sort of filler into the holes in the blocks, but they just built a freestanding unit to hold the TV in the end.

Other neighbours (who have the same problem) have hung their flat screen TV's from ceiling rafters with steel wires... looks very professional too!

Apart from the trailing leads of course......

the best ,and also the most expensive option are resin fixings specifically designed for lose/soft substrate

There is'nt a breeze block behind it - only a gap and then the stud wall to the bathroom.

I'm planning to find a noggin to anchor it to - if I then pull the spring toggle towards the wood and then tighten it up it should be fine. Obviously I won't be going direct to the back of the plasterboard - that would be a bad idea and would pull the entire panel off the wall!

if it's a stud wall then as you say screw direct into the noggin with a 2inch wood screw still dont see the need for the toggle fixing though

happy viewing anyway

Well I thought it would be more secure with something that springs out behind - a screw could pull out - a spring toggle with the clamps won't be going anywhere!

the spring toggle is designed to fix lightweight objects to plasterboard or thin sheets of plywood ,trying to get the toggle through a 3inch piece of wood will be very hard ,if done correctly wood screws will be quite sufficient i would use a 2 or 2"x10 pre drilled with a 4 mm drill

Re: LCD / TFT Wall Bracket

Fitting 2 batons the width of the tv across will hold it . It's only a 19" lcd not a 50"plasma
