Is Virgin charging for 1899.com?

Just been speaking to a mate who uses 1899.com for cheaper phone calls through Telewest/Virgin.

he's been charged for the calls he's made through the 02081804804 access number that they use.
are Virgin chrging/blocking that number now?

If they'd blocked it, then he wouldn't get through... is he dialling correctly? On the 1899.com site it says this, but not sure if that's just for mobiles?....

Quote:
please ensure that you do not press the green/send key on your mobile again after dialling the follow-on number or you may be billed for a minute call by your mobile operator. 020 calls from mobiles may come out your inclusive free minutes or your mobile operator may charge separately for calls to 020 numbers depending on your operator and tariff plan; please check with your mobile operator for correct rates.

He has it in the phones memory. waits for the prompt and then dials the number he's calling. has had it for ages now the same set up but it's only since middle of Dec last he's been charged for it.

It says also
Quote:
Once registered you can call our freephone access number 0808 1 708 708 from landlines or 02081 804 804 from your registered telephone number. Wait for the voice prompt and dial the number you would like to call. That's all!
You would read that as the registered landline. then because of the mobile thing you would say it means the registered mobile.
he's using the 0808 number now.

Re: Is Virgin charging for 1899.com?

I see what you mean.... has he been billed individually for each number dialled through 1899.com or charged for the connection number?

Re: Is Virgin charging for 1899.com?

Just spoken to him. according to his invoice online with 1899 he was using the 0808 up until mid september when he started using the 020 one.

he put the wrong number into the new phones. but he says he's never been billed for the 020 since Sept. only from December.

I think the commercial team at Virgin Media will have got on to the 020 number then... 020 will be charged a national rate AFAIK?

Calling that number at the weekends wouldn't incur a charge as that is in the standard free calls to 01 and 02 numbers on a VM line.

Maybe he only called at the weekends before December?

Re: Is Virgin charging for 1899.com?

I would say he's called at all days of the week. I'll leave it with him. he's using the 0808 number now so he'll have to pay the £22.

thanks for the help.

A similar thing happened to me some time ago with the call1866.co.uk service! It was over a whole month as I recall , but I'm not a heavy user so only a handful of calls were involved.
